Specs for the RIO800 pump state 1/2" OD. Is this for both input and output connectors?

I have no idea about the RIO's inlet's and outlet's, but all you need to know is they are very unreliable (they tend to quit without notice) and are submersible (which means you will need to mount the pump in the resevoir, which will heat the water).
Spend a little extra and get at least a Mag-Drive 250 or 350. I saw a post with a new discount coupon for $10.00 of a purchase of $30.00 or more (making these almost as cheap as the RIO) at www.PetSmart.Com. Trust me, don't go cheap (I saved a little money buying cheap hose, then bought good hose later, and a new processor ![]()

Yes Rios suck. they just quit with no warning. Maxi jets are good and cheap but the highest rate is 298 gph. If you don't mind size(actually the Ehiem's are big) get a SEN. It may be way too powerful(700gph) but it has 3/4" fittings. And I thought they were makeing a smaller one. Mine has been running for over a year non-stop with out any problems

Thanks for the advice people.
Just wish I had checked here before I ordered the rio800 ![]() Im going to get a Danner pump now. About submersible vs inline, the reason I considered it was the fact that I wouldnt have to worry about "bleeding" the system...plus, how much heat could it possibly add anyway compared to a 150W+ genearting processor? I could probably just add another small radiator JUST to remove what little heat the pump induces. |

Don't stress. Mines been running for 7 months no worries. If you have the money for a new pump - buy it! Otherwise, use it in a reservoir. As for heating the water up, there is a very, very simple solution. Have it after the water block!
Cheers

Great idea. I already sprang for the new pump though. I have a friend who says he'll use in it in his aquarium, so no big thing.
