Then tell us your experience. I'm more worried in performance/drivers.

I've seen lindows popping up everywhere. Windows was trying to sue them because of the name lol. I guess i'll go give it a shot. I'm curious on how it looks and how it handles to the home user.
I'll post up my experiences when.... i've experienced them. Harja, kif ahna g'bin? Last edited by F18Viper; 02-19-2003 at 05:57 PM. |

Hey dudes,
I recently delved into the Linux world to try things out. At first I bought Lycoris Desktop/LX. www.lycoris.com . Check it out. It is similar to windows/lindows and sells on cheap PCs. It retails for only $29.99 so I figured I'd check it out. It wasn't bad, but driver support was horrible and so was general support of my hardware. So I moved on... I looked into Lindows, but it was too expensive. I moved on to Mandrake Linux. This thing is free. Just download the ISO and burn. Well, I did that... and I like it a lot! It is supporting my ATGi 8500 graphics card (linux likes nVidia cards much better) without any problem. The sound works well too. The unfortunate part is my monitor. I can't get any distro of linux to correctly support my 1600x1024 SGI LCD. I'm thinking about trying Red Hat. Well... just thought I'd relay you all my experience. -Kev

you do realize that anything using linux technology is free? you should be able to download lindows or whatever for free. thats the whole cool thing about linux - its copyrighted so taht no one can charge money for anything containing linux. i have redhat 8 runing on one of my computers. it works quite well, but then im not runing a gui or anything and i only use it for servers.

I read a cool article comparing all the distros at www.desktoplinux.com ... sounds like RH is the best.
