Default I need a reservoir...

...but not just any reservoir. I want one made out of copper and that is the same size as a CD-ROM. Yeah, I know what you're thinking... What about the lucite bay-res deal?

Well, I don't think being able to see green water sloshing around in a reservoir serves any kind of purpose, and I want to be able to change the hose barbs without destroying the reservoir.

So, I was thinking:

1) Use 0.048 for the top, bottom, and front

2) Use 0.125 for the sides, with an extra piece of 0.125 soldered on the inside horizontal centerline for screws

3) Use 0.250 for the back, to give the fittings a place to thread into

I figure it would cost about $25 for material. Would anyone be willing to take on the task of building one of these in exchange for an item or two that I have listed in the FS/FT forum? I also have an as yet unused bay-res.

It's easy to do.

You really don't need copper that thick. You can simply solder a copper threaded fitting in the back.

In fact, you don't need copper at all: you're just adding metal in the loop, unecessarily.

You ought to look at a PVC res/airtrap, like this one.

But a plain box would be easier to clean up (by ishing).

The only thing I want protruding from the box are the fittings themselves. Would 1/8 inch be thick enough to thread fittings into? Maybe 3/16?

I know I don't *need* copper, but I want something similar to a bay-res so that it can be slid into a drive bay.

While I could probably get the PVC stuff in a drive bay, it's not exactly the most sanitary method.

I'd rather pay someone to make be a decent copper reservoir that'll fit into a drive bay.

If it's going to fit in a 5 1/4 bay, it's gotta be about 40 mm high. There are no PVC fittings that I'd use to slap something together within this height, because it would be a significant flow restriction, IMO. (1/2" PVC fittings). PVC might not look clean to you, but it's very easy to deal with.

As for the mount, it's pretty easy to do: I just took measurements of the screws for my HDD block, and I have the specs written down, with some play, for some mounting flexibility.

But you'd have to tell me if you want the copper to come flush to the case front, or if you want to hide it behind a cover.

You can PM me your e-mail address, and we can pick it up from there: my PM box is near full already.

1/8" will be fine.

I can solder threaded copper adapters right to the edge of the backplate, so they'll protrude by no more than 1/4".

If you're gonna have a copper res, it'd be a shame not to include some venting, for some additional cooling. Think about a 1/2" copper pipe zig-zagging within the res, and you can adapt a fan to it, with the outlet either coming out the front, or exiting the back, your choice.

Even simpler, give the bay-res an odd shape, so that you can slap a couple of 40 mm fans in front of it.

Many choices...

Well, I had another idea, so the copper reservoir idea is no longer applicable.

But my new idea is somewhat cooler.

When it's formed into a recogniable cognative thought, I'll share it with everyone.
