gona be water cooling my system soon, was gona do it a while ago then went with a bigger air cooled but i'm bored and need a project, anyways I have everything I want to get picked out, the only thing i'm not sure on is the water pump, was looking at 2 different ones, same brand just 2 different GPH ratings, i'm not sure exactly which one is better for what i'm doing.
one is 185GPH, the bigger one is 320GPH, aside from being pysicaly bigger is there any other drawbacks to the larger one such as being louder? how much are the advantages as far as better cooling goes with the higher flow rate? not sure if it's important or not as to how many blocks, etc it will be going thru to detirmine what I need so gona post it now, the system will have 2 CPU water blocks ( Maze3 Copper Water Block) , the radiator (Black Ice Xtreme), and a Reservoir tank and it will be all 1/2" tubing. |

What would be important, is the pump model, or more specifically, the max head rating.
edit: I'll take a guess: you're looking at a Via Aqua 1300 (max head 6') or a Rio 180 (max head 3'). Am I close? |

Bigben2k, I believe he is looking at the Hydor L20 (185gph) and the Hydor L30 (320gph)

Good call.
Both are expensive though: you can do better. Consider a Maxijet (submerged) for $20 at BeCooling or a Via. |

I'd get the L30. Depends on the whole system though

Why doesn't anyone ever recommend the Danner Mag3? It has a lower flow rating of 350gph at 0 feet, but a max head of 10 feet (35 watts). It's also only $40.
I don't personally have one, but if my via doesn't "do it", I'm looking hard at the Mag3. |

Probably because the housing needs patching. An easy mod.

yeah, the two i'm looking at are the Hydor L20 & L30, since I already made my reservoir tank and I made it for an inline system a submerged pump isn't an option, had decided to go with inline cause I had read that submerged disipate all their heat from the motor into the water where the inlines disipated it into the air.
what exactly does the max head rating refer to? |

Really, it's the maximum vertical height that the pump can push water straight up. It's basically a measure of how much pumping pressure that the pump can provide. |
