Default Do I need to use those metal inserts on compression fittings with silicon tubes?

It looks like I need them, but my local stores don't carry them above 3/8 (though they have lots of 1/2 fittings ) so I'll need to order them. Can I get away without them?

Also on a different topic, does anyone no if I can remove fittings that were weilded onto my DTek heatercore with a Propane torch? Its the hottest thing I have.

I'm actually looking to do the same thing, compression fittings with silicone, but my problem is I haven't been able to find these inserts anywhere. I tried McMaster, but had no luck.

Anyone know where these can be bought? In fact, even 3/8" would work for one of my machines.

My local Ace Hardware sells upto 3/8. Actually the guy siad they should have 1/2 as well, but we couldn't find them.

I'll post the part number if I end up ordering from McMaster (too lazy to search now, but I'm sure they sell them).

Great, thanks. I'll check Ace around here and see what I can find.

Though I don't know how much luck you'll have with McMaster. I even put in one of those information requests, because I couldn't find it, and they responded that they didn't carry anything like that.

If anyone knows of any other source for these inserts, I'd love to hear about it.

I found some at Home Depot. They look kind of like top hats, really; a short length of straight brass, with a flared-out end.

The ones I found came with some kind of compression fitting retention ring, and cost around a dollar.
