I went to finally put together my watercooling rig last weekend(only about 6 months behind schedule
![]() ![]() Now my concern is that if the housing was this easy to break, there must be a chance that this could happen inside my case. I'm a little wary that I could jostle my case around and then find an electrified aquarium on my desk. Are there any other ways besides the hose clamp on the input of the housing to keep it from cracking so easily? If there is no better way I might just get an Eheim pump. Also, do Petsmart stores carry replacement impeller housings for Danner pumps? I know the online store does, but does anyone have experience with the physical stores? Thanks for any replies. BTW.. The engineer who designed the injection mold for the impeller housing should be shot. There are no structural support ribs and the plastic is much too thin to survive any amount of force placed upon it. [ 11-12-2001: Message edited by: Def ]

I always thought that those were part of the process for making the housing. I have the samethings but mine don't leak. Just seal her up man.

I'm positive these cracks weren't there when I bought it. The fact that I can seperate each "piece" of the housing by at least 1-2mm shows that they're completely cracked through. I was going to try to epoxy it, but this thing is toast. Any amount of force is going to rip it in half.

I have cracked 2 housings for my Danner 5 over the days. Once was totally me fault as I tightened the fitting too much, and the second occured from lousy nylon braided vinyl tubbing "torquing" the fitting. I can tell you that sealing the housing totally leak proof is damn near impossible once you crack it. Better off to order a replacement. And no, petsmart won't have it, trust me

Well. Long story here to a disaster...
I left my system on, Danner 7, everything on and went for an hour walk. I come home, go back onto my comp. Look at temps and they look surprisingly a bit higher (about 10C higher than the norm). So I look at the tubing leading to my radiator that is outside of the case. There is foam in there, well, lots and lots of small bubbles. I then put my elbow on my desk, and feel wetness. My heart sank, and I think I had a heart attack. I quickly shut off the comp and pump. I look at my desk and see a huge puddle...coming from my computer. I open it up to find about 1/3" of water in the bottom. Trying to find the leak, I look at the pump. At first I though the resevoir/airtrap I made was leaking, but it wasn't. The pump had cracked in three places and was leaking quite badly. I WAS REALLY PISSED. So now, I refuse to use them ****ed up Danner's anymore. They are poorly designed pieces of shit. Excuse my language, but they just lost all hope from me. Nothing was harmed in my system thankfully, just the pump and the stench of glycol in my room. Gee, hope I don't get cancer...from the glycol evaporating. Anyways, to make a long story short, DO NOT GET DANNERS unless you are gonna run the tubing in a straight line. (first post, and pissed post...) P.S. Happened yesterday. |

That sucks Arkomix, you are one lucky duck to survive that one. Hey must be that you are #1111
![]() Oh, I don't know about you but Eheim is starting to look sweet.

My Danner doesn't seem to leak after JB Welding it back together. Of course it could go at any time. I also cracked mine in use by torquing the braided tubing when working around in it. Maybe I will just pick up an Eheim though since I am about to build a new rig. They are so damn pricey though it is hard to stomach. Aren't there any mid-price alternatives?

I think I'm going to go out this weekend and look for an Eheim 1250. That should be plenty of flow for me.
Does anyone know how much larger an Eheim 1250 is compared to a Danner 5? The Danner is a tight squeeze in my Enlight 7237 case, so if the Eheim is much larger, I might have to get EXTREMELY creative. ![]() Oh, and thanks for the replies guys. Good to know I'm not the only hamfisted computer modder out there. ![]()

Danners are not forgiving when it comes to that intake fitting.
I dunno about a mid priced alternitive. I am still sitting on the fence between a 1250 and a 1048.

I have run alot of aquarium's since I was seven. My brother has run alot more then me. I learned from my brother that Ehiem is the most reliable brand in fish supplies. There water pumps are no exception. When you have 2k or more in fish swimming around in a tank you can't hace it fail. I have been using a 1046 Ehiem for over a year with no problems. I've even dropped it on the concrete moving it from lan to lan. (I keep my setup outside my case except for the block) With all this there has been no leaks or problems. I just bought a danner model 7. (700gph) I took it apart to eliminate the rattle from the impellar. When I was putting the housing back on it cracked. Etiehr i'm superman and hand tight doesn't apply to me or they are poorly made. If I had the money I would buy another Ehiem but until then its epoxy. BTW you get you moneys worth with Ehiem.
