Help me pick my Iwaki Pump

I am at the stage in my WC project were I have to buy a pump I've not heard anything bad about www.customaquatics.com so I will be ordering from there. I have a single-pass HC 9-1/2 X 6-1/8 X 2 with 2 128cfm 120mm fans pushing and 2 pulling air with a shroud on both sides. The system will be 1/2" tubing and connectors with a CPU & GPU block(Undecided but will most likely be medium flow blocks). I'm looking at the following pumps.

IKMD15RLT
IKMD20RLT
IKMD20RLXT

I'm not really sure which to get I've done plenty of looking and found the general opinion is I should be fine with the MD15RLT. I just want to be sure so I'm asking what everyone thinks.......

Thanks
Kook

O and are these all US volt pumps? 110v? And these are all about the same size correct?

The MD-15 would be a good choice of those three. The MD-15 is a little shorter that the MD-20 models but is about the same height and width.

There is a thrid model of MD-20 you don't list in your choices the MD-20rlzt which has a higher head rate & lower flow rate. The MD-20 z pumps are a better choice for water cooling a PC than the rlt or rlxt types.

Both the 15rl & 20rlzt matched with your large single pass rad should serve you well.

What water blocks are you going to be running?

Not to sure on the waterblocks...... not going to be buying them for a month or two so I'm waiting to see if anything new comes out.

On www.customaquatics.com they only have IKWMD20rlzt would getting the "W" american motor result in any negitive effects? If so do you know of any site that stocks the IKMD20rlzt?

What kind of temp difference do you think I would be seeing between the MD15RLT and MD20RLZT?

Thanks

1C + - a bit.

The trick to these pumps is that the MD-20 adds more heat to the water from the pump it self. That added heat from the larger pump acts to balance the differance between the two pumps. With 4 strong fans on the rad you might do better than 1C but it won't be much more. 4 strong fans though = loud.

And a MD-20 is about 3" longer than the MD-15 which will make it a tougher pump to fit in a case.

Both are good pumps. And the site you put up did have a MD-20rz (I see now they don't have the MD-20rlzt with threaded inlet/outlets) listed, but with hose barb connections instead of threaded ones. Would still work just as well. The thing with the WMD pumps is they are louder due to a cheaper motor used, cooling performace would be the same I'd think. The MD-20rz is 4 douwn from the MD-15. It's $50.00 more money though. Comes down to how much is getting that last 1C worth.

You should watch for the commercial version of the White Water block (D-tek), it's coming out in the next few weeks. And D-tek has a good NB block as does Danger Den.

For Gfx I like the Danger Den one amoung the comercial blocks out.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info Blackeagle I ordered the MD-15RLT the MD-20 wouldn't fit well with my mounting plans. And one last question I want to mount this pump facing down in my case, I believe I saw somewhere that this pump won't have a problem with this but I wanted to check....Got a clue? And I'm going to have the 4 120s hooked to a fan bus so I can turn them down a bit.

Thanks

I've never seen that done.

Far as I know, you need to keep the inlet well supplied. Perhaps someone else can say for sure.

Got this from the Iwaki site:

http://www.iwakipumps.com/md_wmdcustomerppt/sld013.htm

Do you think the "heads down" mean upside down?

Yes, I'd say you're right. Will still make it harder to prime I'd think.

Guess the idea of mounting it head down just makes me nervous. Perhaps I worry to much.

Yours should be a strong system judging by your rad and pump choices.

Best of luck.

Centrifugal pumps will work any way up as long as they are primed...

I wish you had taken Blackeagles advice and gone for the 'Z' high head model though  ...

PS: I think the WDM(USA made) versions run hotter as well as noisier, and generaly fail quicker than the Japanese counterpart...

So you don't think the MD-15 will be able to handle my system?

Thanks

Well it seems fate agrees with you MadDogMe, Customaquatics just informed me that they are out of the MD-15RLT and I stopped my order so.................

Why do you think I should go with the MD-20RZ? Think I need that much head? and is it worth the extra watts the 20 series uses?

And one last question CustomAquatics seems to be out of a lot of Iwaki pumps are there any other GOOD resellers out there? I've seen deepseagallery mentioned a couple of times anyone ordered from there?

Thanks

I got the For Sale/Trade thread over @[H]

Wolfie,

You might want to list your pump on this sites forum for selling/buying. If price is reasonable I'm sure it'd sell at this site.

Just wondering, why did you up grade so fast to the 20Z? The 15 is a pretty good pump it's self, what are you trying to cool that it wasn't enough?
