Default hacking a speedstream 5260

alright, picked me up a speedstream 5260 a while back to run on my dsl line. obviously, i can't use it because it's a bridge and i need a router. soooo, i had to make an emergency snag of a cisco 675, which works great except the fact that it runs CAP and all our new higher-speed dsl lines run DMT. so, i want my connection to go a little faster than 384 (which is usually best of about 325).

so anyways, i found out i have a hybrid 5260-5660 model, which can be upgraded to a 5660 with a hacked firmware update, and then run the normal update flash. easily enough done, but i have 1 problem.

the router won't accept a telnet session.

got the thing set up, i can ping it just fine, but it doesn't seem to want to accept telnet or ftp login. basically i'm just set up with an ethernet cable between my pc and the device. it pings less than 1 ms, but not telnet response. windows telnet says it actively refuses the connections..

anyone work with these and can throw me a bone? i'd REALLY appreciate it, i don't really want to spend another $100 buying up a 678 if i can get this thing to work, i already bought the 675 (got the 5260 from a friend for free ).

if anyone is interested in knowing how to hack a 5260 into a 5660, i have the instructions and the files (both the hacked 2.1.0(29) and the newest 5660 2.3.something). it's really pretty easy, i'm just having trouble with mine because it doesn't seem to want to telnet.

thanks.

Hi, I know this is a year since you posted this, but can you help me with upgrading my 5260 speedstream? (sorry, I can't help you with your telnet problem!)

You say you have the upgrade file and instructions .... can you send those to me? If you still have them that is .... Use this email: l.neville@cwcom.net

Thanks

Don't worry about it. After posting I found the file and tutorial thru google, and I upgraded my speedstream! So thanks for the reply anyway.
