Default question on filters

I have been wanting to make an evaporation cooler but I don't want to pay a hole bunch of money for distiled water to refill the system. So I was wondering where I could get a good priced filter? I looked at all of the filters at the local places and they all seem like they need a really powerful pump (12 gpm or higher) and they are super expensive like $50 or more.

Thanks for the help.

I thought that if I did that it would corrode my block and get the evaporation tube (bong) really dirty

If you evaporate anything but distilled water there will be minerals, etc left in the bong. Every time you refill the system you are adding more minerals and chemicals -so the concentration will keep rising. Municiple supplies also have some chlorine, fluorine, etc. -concentrations of that could be corrosive.

Default Be careful when using a hair dryer...

Probably not a perfect solution, but you might try looking at some of the drinking water filters - ie 'Brita'.

Possibly better might be some of the filters sold to campers for cleaning swamp water.

They won't remove everything but they might help clean up your refill water to some degree.

Mineral concentrations might not be to big of a problem if you do a regular flush to completely change out the old water, and maybe a vinegar flush such as one would use to clean a coffee maker.
