Default Opteron Swiftech Waterblock

Has anyone given this a go? Any information, BillA? I'm thinking of snagging a FX-51 and I'd like to slap one of these puppies on ... any thoughts?

we got a board and cpu last wk, yet to fire it up
no reason to think the wb will cool any differently on an Opteron than a P4 or Xeon
??
mounts easily in the stock retention frame (with the steel backing plate)

Would a conversion to the new A64 bp + adapter plate be necessary ?

I know the current "hump" on the MCW5002 measures 37x36.5mm and the IHS of the A64 measures 37.5x37.5mm.

I'm thinking the best scenario would be to just pop the IHS off and not worry about that small 1mm of difference nad it would cool a lot better.

Just curious as to whethere there would be terribly detrimental effects running it as such using a stock MCW5002 and a DIYed adapter plate.

not recommended at all
the clamping force is about double with the springs we are using,
and the straight sides of the IHS support that load (with controlled deflection of the center area)

as a DIY project, feel free - its your cpu

I wouldnt be using compression springs but would bolt it straight to the board.

But you did bring up a point, with the holes now 9cm apart, flexing of the adapter plate or waterblock does become an issue.

We'll see what I'll do once I get my A64 setup. Thanks.
