I'm sure you've all heard of the homemade evaporative coolers that are all the rage lately (Joe has a link on the mainpage - http://www.overclockers.com/articles389/index06.asp). I am thinking of making one, but I am concerned about biological growth because you are not able to use Water Wetter or any other potentially toxic water additives with this sort of cooling system.
So, does anyone know of any non-toxic water additives that inhibit biological growth? Also, does anyone know of any non-toxic additives that help prevent corrosion? Basically I'm looking for something to replace Redline's Water Wetter that won't kill me when I inhale it ![]() |

Another source is your local plant shop or green house. Good ones have dozens of products aimed at keeping algae out of fountains and ponds. As for the corrosion problem, there are two suggestions: don't use water, and add some zinc coated metal inline as a sacrificial corroder. If you go the route of using zinc, remember to replace it occasionally... ;-)
