Overclock -> temp drop?

I just got round to doing a little basic OC'ing to burn in my 2800XP, i upped the fsb from 166 to 185 (2083->2310mhz)straight off and booted back into windows. before i did this i set up mbm5 etc. so i would have something to compare and something to watch (and something to SS and brag about later) in the 1-1.5 seconds it took me to do, by the time i had rebooted, my water temp was exactly the same at 27'c but my CPU has dropped from 32 to 29'C! and has been sat there stable for about 10 mins now, running all the same progs and with a bit more interaction on my part.

this has made me wonder about something i read up on a *long* time ago, about higher rated CPU's, binned lower in the plant and then running hotter than they would at spec. any truth in this?

i wont be able to sleep now this has got me all confused and stuff :shrug:

I doubt you would have overlooked this, but are you sure its running at the higher speed? Perhaps the OC was too much and it defaulted/rebooted to a slower speed. My PC has done that before.

nope, you had me paranoid for a second there so i reinstalled mbm5 and WCPUID and even rebooted to check BIOS and its definatly at the overclocked speed (BIOS=2310,mbm5=2313,wcpuid=2312.93)

My case is at 27 and my CPU now at 28, so it has dropped to damn near room temp... i have checked it with a compunurse, and my cpu is definatly still cold to the touch
