Mounting a White Water on an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe?

Hello!

I'm having problems mounting the WW on an Asus P4C800-E motherboard.

The socket screws appear to be too short for my motherboard because the nylon nuts on the back will only just grab the screw? I mounted it screw (in the countersunk hole) -> mounting plate -> black nylon nut -> motherboard -> black nylon nut.

I'm gonna try sourcing a slightly longer screw tomorrow, I just wanted to know if I missed something obvious?

I managed to find a slightly longer screw, but it's metric so the nylon nuts won't fit. So I'm gonna try drilling out four of the nuts to use as spacers between the bracket and the motherboard and then use some plastic washer + metal nut on the back of the motherboard. I just hope the screw isn't long enough to touch the motherboard mounting plate.

Before you go into any drilling & mods. Have you tried to contact the seller of your WW WBlock, that is if you bought it?

I have a Asus P4C800-E
and had no problem mounting the WW untill i remove the IHS off the CPU...
but the part you are having problem with... i didn't have...
unless for some reasong you got the wrong screws...

something to try though... after removing the IHS off my CPU
had to sand the black nylon nuts thinner so that the whole mounting plate was lower. but the i had to grind the bolt heads where the WW attaches to so i could prevent it from touching the MB.
you may want to try that if contacting the reseller you purchased it from as j813 mentioned

I'm using Asus P4C800-E motherboards with WW blocks as well.

Those screws are not the correct ones for some reason. Either contact the reseller that you purchased the WW from, or D-Tek and they'll send you the longer screws.
I don't mind sending you the correct screws, so PM me if you'd like.

Bruce

Wow Bruce, that's very generous of you! I'm gonna "test drive" my resellers support organization first, but if that doesn't pan out I might just take you up on your offer.

Bruce correct me if I'm wrong, the holes or bolts are 4mm?
Here I can't find one longer than 2" inches but if not in millimeter there is, forgot what size is equavalent or near 4mm.

I received a P4 Socket adaptor kit from Dtek over this past weekend and found the long screws were 2.5" in length with thread 6/32. The small hex cap screws were .5" in length with thread 6/32.

I didn't mention anything about 4mm?

j813 - monkey_1 is right... the bolts to mount the water block are 6/32 by 2-1/2"...

but Tyop was asking about the cap screws to mount the P4 plate to the motherboard. and again, what monkey_1 said is correct... 6/32 by 1/2"

Ah yes I'm askin because I measured a defective socket478 board's holes with an ordinary caliper and it was 4mm, I was just making sure if I'm right.
I'm also thinkin of using 4mm, because I feel it's cool to use.
Thanks anyway

Since finding nylon washers or nuts was next to impossible locally I solved it by using a M3 screw with some old nylon washers.

Last night I laid it all out inside the case and cut the hoses for it. I must say I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! I'm hoping to start leak testing tonight once the hose clamps are in place.

That went well!

The antifreeze foamed and leaks were everywhere. First the Whitewater leaked from the threads, then from the hose attached to the BIX, then from the hose connected to the maze4 gpu (which I thought would be impossible since it fit so well).

I've run out of patience for now so the kit is in a box waiting for a rainy day when I might be bored enough to try and make it work again. What a piece of shit.

I seldom hear things happen like this.

I finally had time to go through the setup and located the source of the problem. It turns out the spiffy hose clamps i was using actually squeezed the hose creating the leaks, that's what you get by being overly cautious.

[Edit: this was the reason why I had leaks all over the place]

From searching the board I've accepted the notion that clamping of any kind isn't really to prevent leaks as much as preventing hoses from accidentally coming off. So I'm thinking of zip ties for try no. 2, what do you think?

Other than that I really think I got it nicely laid out in the case and I can't wait to get it sorted. Gonna fill, bleed and test outside the case this time since I got all hoses cut to perfect length already.

I've heard some used zip ties OK, then he also had leaks due to hose slipping off maybe because of soap he used to grease the barb.
IMO putting clamps in the right location on the barbs will not squeeze the hose @ all.

I'm looking for better clamps, but I'm not too keen on the worm drive ones, they're bulky and might also squish the hose?

I use thos one's myself...
find they work ok ....
they squish the hose a little but i use hose with 1/8" thick walls
Only problem I had with them is that I painted my 90Deg copper elbows with silver paint...
and that caused the hose to slip off...
me thinks....
so I am currently re doing my system...
an hour or so a day...
