Different waterblock idea...

Hmm, made this silly design here a while ago and discarded it right away. Found it recently tho and it made me wonder how this would perform... Haven't got high hopes, no jet impingement or anything

Its a four inlet single outlet design, and I've been trying to create turbulence around the pins (red square) right over the die, using a circular waterflow.
I'm fearing there might be stagnant water right under the inlet

As base, maybe an pin based 1u heatsink would do (if I can find one).

What do you blokes think of it?

We actually examined a similar design quite some time ago. I also explored a similar idea, but dropped it.

The first issue is that regardless of the outlet geometry, you're not forcing a circular movement: the center inlet will flow straight towards the 4 outlets. Try it.

The other issue is that even if you were to be able to force a circular motion, which is actually hard to do, you'd find that the heavier cooler particles would be flung outside, keeping the warmer water to flow over the core.

I think JayDee116 and I debated such a design, but it must have been over a year ago now.

Ben, read

those are 4 inlets, one outlet.

I also exploored the idea a while back, and there would be a lot of velocity and turblience but it would be hard to have all that velocity and turblience and not disrupt flow around the pins unless they spiraled in toward the center.

ben's confusion probably arises from this comment - it confused me as well.
Perhaps should read "under the outlet"????

Ah, 4 inlets, right. (sorry!)

We explored that too, same problem (cool water out, no good turbulence).

Should I dig up the thread?

I remember such a discussion. Long time ago. Not even sure if it was on ProCooling. I think we were trying to get a whirlpool effect or something impossible like that. Might have been on OCForums.
