Does the Danner Mag 3 perform better in restrictive loops or unrestricted loops? Which cpu block and gpu block peform the best under this pump?
I was thinking of pairing it with a DangerDen TDX w/ #4 or #5 nozzle and the new brass Maze4 gpu block. I'm also using the DangerDen Double Heatercore and 1/2" tubing.

IMHO, danner pumps are powerful but leak like a bitch over time. i has a mag 5 on a swifty 5002 and then a 6002, on 2 heatercores and had no problem with flow.(****as leaked like hell though)

Have you patched your mag up with teflon tape or such? I plan on doing that and I heard the Mag 3 is awsome once you patch the o-ring and use plastic/nylon barbs.

Any pump will perform better in a loop with less restriction, but I believe the answer your looking for is that a restrictive loop with a Mag 3 will perform well. It's got 10.5' head and is pretty high flow, so a basic loop like the one you describe is nothing to worry about. Considering you're spending so much money on DangerDen parts, why not get an AquaXtreme pump? It's practically identical in performance, but more reliable and much quieter than the Danner.

That's exactly why i'm going with a Mag 3....because i'm already spending so much money that I can't afford to spend $40 more on a 50z. I know it's been said over and over that the pump should be the first watercooling component that should be spent the most on but in my situation, I want a kickass watercooling setup for $200 that will cool both my cpu and gpu. I can't subtract $40 from my other components because they aren't even the best anyways (so i'm basically downgrading to crap). The best solution to me would be the Mag 3 because it performs like a $80 pump. I don't care about the leakage problems as long as it can be fixed. Leakage wouldn't even kill my system cause it's not like someone put a gun to my head and said I had to put my pump inside the case in the first place.
If you guys want me to list everything I want to buy than I will. But I don't want to have a watercooling setup that sux (planning to overclock as much as I can).

First off, don't buy that DangerDen rad, buy a 77' Bonneville heatercore from Autozone. That'll save you a bit. Also, get a Swiftech MCW6002 and an MCW50 GPU block. Together those should three things save you $40 easily and you can get a higher quality, quieter pump. I use a Mag 3 currently, but while it was fine, the fittings aren't great and even with teflon they leak a tiny bit and it's a pain in the ass trying to find 3/4" pipe to 1/2" barb fittings. Did I mention is somewhat noisy and big?
Keep in mind you'll need a female AND male fittings, not two of the same type. The intake is female and the output is male so you'll need the corresponding fittings and they're not easy to find. I ended up using a brass 3/4" female to female pipe connector on the output and then a nylon 3/4" male pipe to barb fitting because I cannot find a nylon 3/4" female pipe to barb fitting at Lowe's or Home Depot. Maybe you can get some from McMaster. But then again, quick connect fittings are really the way to go. Save yourself time and trouble and get an AquaExtreme or MCP650. You can save money by not using DangerDen parts. They're really not worth it. You can get equal or better performance for less. |
