Nobody likes the razor...
It's too big and bulky, and it uses a ball ![]() There is a new one they made though that uses an optical laser that has a 1000 dpi optical sensor, even logitech's new MX-510 "only" has an 800 dpi optical sensor. Maybe once people start to notice the new one it'll start to take a share of peoples desktops  |

The Viper is the new one; the old one with the ball is the boomerslang (who the hell comes up with these names?!)

I love my MX500 but I hear great things about the 510, 700, and 900 (wouldn't switch brands.)
The resolution of a mouse is far from all that matters. Price, ease of use, comfort, buttons, acceleration, support, etc. |

Mx500 for me, basically a MX700 with a cord, much lighter because I took out the weight and it has no batteries, plus I dont ever have to recharge it.

I have an MX510 and an MX900. My roommate has an MX700.
Id say MX510 hands down. I really did not like the performance of the wireless mice while playing games. -ad187 |

I use the MX-700 and dig it. Wish Logitech sold the wireless keyboard by itself without having to buy a transmitter again.
Anyways, there is an important little fact that does not get noticed in the DPI spec breast beating: USB ports don't hit any device, mice included, for a data fetch more than about 220 times a second. It depends on the number of USB gadgets on that hub, the more there are the worse. PS2 isn't much better. But it kinda makes ultra-high DPI sensors redundant. You move the mouse more than six "pixels" of co-ordinates in its sensor per data fetch when doing something mundane like browsing the web...the extra resolution makes an incredibly miniscule impact on the difference. The best thing to do for response is to make sure the mouse has a whole USB controller all to its little self. Its like guys who have systems ramped with a 6800 Ultra in a Vapochill pushing 100FPS in current games, while playing on a 60hz refresh LCD monitor. Its pointless 'cause the monitor can't display all those extra frames. |

I picked up a Viper the other day,
The interface between the PC and mouse seems smooth and the buttons have a nice click to them. Otherwise, not too many good things about it. It doesn't conform to the hand well. Compared to several other mice I have it is the least comfortable to use. The height of the mouse is a good 1/4" - 1/2" less compared to other mice, so in most cases the only thing on the mouse are your fingers and thumb. It also doesn't weigh a whole lot either given the size and lack of batteries. I would also like to see at least one thumb button on this thing. After all it is a gaming mouse and more buttons is mo betta. I haven't tried any of the high end Logictech mice, but I have a feeling that they would be a better choice for most people.

my Mx700 is too heavy for good CounterStrike matches. My friend's mx310 is so light that it works wonders but the shape sucks. I would say a mx510 because the 700 is too heavy but the shape is great. Wireless hasn't really done anything for me but allow me to mouse on my leg.

I used my MX700 up untill I broke it. I loved that mouse. It was great.
I really want to try the new one with the laser though.

They may be playing at 60hz, and they may not be able to see 150fps because of that, but at the same time, they likely don't drop below 60 fps either, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. You give, you take...

i have a mx700 for games, but everything else i've gone over to a microsoft track ball. for work and stuff, it's simply great. i used to have a boomslang, which was awesome for work but it broke. none of the currently produced mice really have the resolution i need with the twitchiness i want, they all suck, so the best alternative is the track ball.
i need a new mouse though, this mx700 is wearing out. the feet are gone, and the paint is wearing through, in some places all the way through to the white. it's crazy, in that respect i don't think the product held up well at _all_, i've never seen a mouse wear out like this. for games, it's a pretty good mouse. i never get any lag, and have been able to use the mouse 15-20 feet from the base without problem. it's almost always on the charger though, that's not an issue with me, since i have the trackball for everything else. tried the trackball for games, not quite gotten into that yet, except games like generals and such. fps games still a little rusty with the track ball. ![]()

the mx1000 should have enough resolution for you. I dont see how a tracball has more res than a mouse, since its all the same circuitry inside.
