Bare Die Poll

Please vote if you qualify:

You:
  • Are interested in watercooling for purposes of overclocking and/or quiet cooling.
  • Would spend ~2 hours to perform a modification that would likely result in a significant improvement in clock frequency and/or temperature.

Would you remove your CPU's Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS) (assuming it has one) if:
  • The technique of doing so was well-documented and required only simple tools (eg. a hobby knife).
  • You were guaranteed some improvement in OC/temp.
  • There was a small risk dependent on your skill at permanently damaging the CPU.

You ought to have split the poll for Intel vs AMD; it's relatively easy to do for AMD, but potentially lethal for Intel.

It's implicit: removal of epoxied Intel IHS is not well-documented, for precisely the reason that it is often fatal.

For AMD, yes, it's basic common sense.
For intel.. but do enthusiasts / OCers really buy intel procs nowadays ? With AMD confirming their continuation of the S939 Opteron line the choice is clear...
