Ok, I should have listened to BillA about buying a better heatsink/fan, BUT....I'm not the first....
So how many others have had their heatsink/fans fail on their A8N-SLI Deluxe?

in general, the fans on most northbridge heatsinks are crap and are prone to failure. you can try removing it and cleaning / relubing it. or just replace it with something else.

Ok, How many other NF4 mobo users are there? pH? How's DFI cool their chipset to avoid those nasty hard drive boot sector corruptions? I notice Abit is using heatpipes on their new KN8 board.
And I got a CX159 from Sidewinder yesterday to go with the mobo after it comes back from RMA.

got a Fatal1ty A8N-SLI here, with a G5 cooling the x2 cpu
haven't replaced the chipset sink/fan, problem is the 7800gtx vid card overhangs the sink so I don't know what I can squeeze in there |

There was a thread about the Swiftech NB cooler here:
http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=12140 In that thread I showed a mod I made to fit the NB cooler on my MOBO so it wouldn't interfere with the water block mounting on my video card. Swiftechs own website shows the cooler mounted on an A8N-SLI with 2 video cards: http://www.swiftnets.com/products/MCX159-CU.asp Hope this helps.

I have a Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, but ended up replacing the original chipset cooler for a chipset waterblock.
8000 Rpm makes up for a lot of noise. Don't know how the newer boards with heatpipes behave in terms of temps. |

mine failed within 3 weeks of getting the board, the fan appears to be for looks only as my chipset temp *dropped* after i had removed the fan from the chipset block, i then stuck a pair of mosfet sinks in place of the fan which lowered temps further but it has always had a 120mm fan pointed at it from word go as i never trust chipset fans. it has since been replaced with a Danger Den A8N-SLI Chipset bock which fits snugly between any sli cards.
