non flat GPU IHS, what to do?

Howdy everyone,

I've a nvidia gpu I'm making a block for (ram cooling too) and have discovered the gpu IHS is concave, probably .25mm between middle and edges.

Has anyone lapped the IHS on an nvidia with success? Its an old fx5200

Are you having mounting issues? Try it.

Hello Link. On my TI 4200 I started with 600 grit and started bringing down the dark edges until the center began to make contact. I switched to 1200 and continued until a brass colored material started showing through in the center, per the tutorial I read. I stopped at that point and never had a problem. I do not remember the temp difference as this was a while ago. Hope this helps.

Howdy guys,

Bigben I've not having mounting issues as such as when I hold a straight edge on the gpu while i'm in the process or milling up my block I can clearly see light through the middle area of the IHS. I've found a GPU lapping page online thanks Hansfragger, I wasn't sure it was safe to lap a GPU until i found it, I had just assumed the IHS was mega thin and not safe to lap.

When ready I'll give it the treatment.
