Hi guys.
I'm thinking to do the next waterblock: ![]() The diameter of the pins are 4mm, and they are soldered with silver-tin soldering mixture. Do you think that the performance of this block will be good? Thanks. |

Define good?
Better than Apogee, Storm, Maze4, LRR clones? Nope Better than Maze 1: yep.

are you using a CNC? if you are, make it more complicated! =p Try using quadrilateral pins, more turbulence = better cooling.
If you put a jet plate, you'll get way better cooling, difficult to use though. Try it out. |

You will not get efficient thermal transfer to the pins with any kind of solder. Especially ones containing
Lead or Tin. Even the highest silver content solder (=95%) has less than 1/4 the conductivity as pure copper. Like Talcite said, if you have access to CNC see if you can machine the base & pins in one piece. ~ Thermal Conductivity ~ Copper = 398 W/m-C Hard silver solder (95% Au) = 94 W/m-C http://www.engineersedge.com/properties_of_metals.htm
