I just bought a new cooling system (Zalman reserator 1 plus) and the water block that I got with it has a connection for my socket (462) that requires holes in the Motherboard to put screws through. I DON'T HAVE THE HOLES.
My previous CPU cooler attached with a bar that went over the top and attached onto three sticky out things on each side of the CPU mount. Does anyone know what this is called? or if I can get a waterblock or adapter to attach to this type of mount? I can't drill holes through becuase there are motherboard wires in the way. Coud I maybe Glue down the supports or something? |

Think you are out of luck. Good socket A (462) mobos are a dime a dozen these days. Would be easier to buy a good socket A mobo. If not use your old water block and change the fittings to accept the hose. Your old block was probably better any way.

i guess his old cooler was on air, so changing for the old block is probably not an option.
can you still send the reserator back to the shop and get your money back? the rad and pump isn't very good either, so if you change the block, why not by another kit from the first? a cheap block which definitely has 3-lug prong for socketA mounting would be the nexxosxp light or normal nexxoyXP which is widespread available in many countrys. it may not be the best block around but it is a good value and definitely better than the zalman one. since blocks with a socketA mounting without using the holes are getting rare these days there are probably not many other options. |

Yes, my old cooloer was an air system. My thought last night was I could maybe get my brother who is doing mechanical design engineering to cut and weld the two seperate connectors together. Of course, this is last resort kinda stuff. Ideally I'll just buy another water block. I'm just eager to get this all finished so that I have my own computer back.
I was looking into the alphacool NexXxos, Seems to be quite readily available. It's a possibility By any chance does anyone know the name for this type of connector that I have? I would change my motherboard, but to be honest I can't be bothered with the hassle of finding one or the extra cost at this time of the year. Can anyone else recommend other water blocks with the appropriate fitting? Thanks :] |

It's either the cost of a new motherboard or the cost of a new waterblock to replace the one you can't mount on your motherboard. Socket A waterblocks with the socket-lug type mounting are kind of rare nowadays. I might have two spares that I could sell you for cheap, otherwise you're going to have to hunt through eBay or bodge together your own mounting system.

Captain slug, I'm intererested...
What have you got that will fit, and how much? Does any one know the name of the fitting? Last edited by kureigu; 12-18-2006 at 04:22 AM. |

Well, I had a pair of Socket A/360 waterblocks but I think I either sold them or threw them away because I can't find them now.
You'll have to find a Socket A/462 waterblock that includes the socket lug mounting hardware. The NexXxos as you may already know is the only modern block to include hardware for mounting in that manner. |

Might be just a cheap to buy a new mobo. Not sure how easy it is to get older mobo's on Scotland though. They are like $35US around here

I would buy another 462 mobo. I got 3 of them worth nothing. Tax write off donation to salvation army.
You can buy 5002 water block and 462 AMD holddown. Then use 3/8th tubing for the block. |

Do you think I could maybe fit it on with something else maybe?
I dunno if I can be bothered with finding a waterblock that definitely fits, and screw fittings to fit my irregularly sized tubing as well as the block. Motherboards are harder to find here and more expensive. Ideally I'd like to not go spending much more money right now after a spending spree for the new Watercooling system, new HDD and Power Supply Unit. Any ideas for bodging something together? I was thinking some wire of some sort to hold around the lug thingys and go over the top. Or possibly even chop up my old fitting and weld it to part of the new one, but that would require a hell of a lot of precision and calculating =[ Suggestions? Thoughts? Ideas? |

=[
I think today I might bodge something together using wire and something to allow me to tighten them with a screw maybe. I'm surprised no one here has any ideas... |

design a metal piece across the top and tie if you like. or you can build this. Very easy to do with AL http://www.swiftnets.com/assets/imag...D_hardware.jpg |
