I'm trying to get 2 servers linking to 1 SNAP server. It's a 410 with the latest OS on it. Both servers are 2003 Server R2 but one is 64bitOS. That's going to be the primary server that I mount the snap on since it has the most tape backup space.
What I need is if one server goes down, the other picks up right away as I'm using Distributed File System snap on on both servers and have already setup my new login scripts but as of now they are pointing to the temp server that we're using now until I can get the new SNAP up and replicating in real time. I was told that I don't need to use the DFS for replication. Also when I try to mount the snap on the second server, it doesn't see the data that's on the drives/partitions that I've already created. Any assistance would be very helpfull. |

You do have the "Support Multiple Initiators" box checked on the snap server when you set up the iSCSI disk on the snap?

Well everything I've been reading when using google for this, it doesn't look like it can be done with 2003 server and cluster the 2 servers to 1 snap. So unless someone has an answer, I'll wait for Overland to call me back, if they don't have any answer for it then I'll just say screw it and just use the 1 server and if that fails then I'll mount the snap to another server that way.

So far, sharing the same iSCSI partition is not possible (i.e. not supported) on a SnapServer for commercial reasons...
It is a Software issue to do with management, which server controls the data, communicating between the servers etc & the license cost of adding that feature would also be too prohibitive. e.g. The Snap Costs $2000 the software license cost $10,000? If it was cost effective it would hurt the owners of that software (i.e. jeopardize other agreements they would have in place elsewhere) I have seen one group take 6x Snap410s and raid across all 6 of them, not sure how but they could do it... |
