Default Lian Li PC 70 and watercooling ...

I have a LianLi PC70 and i was looking for a place for the new Black Ice XTRME rev2.
First i thought to put it in the area above the PSU in the back, but it wont fit that the barbs would be on top, only sideways...
i thought about a hole in the top of the case but then the reservoir wouldnt be the highest point and air would collect in the black ice.
there is no way anywhere in the bottom because of the HDD cagedesign of the PC70...
any suggestions ?

You can just drill out the rivets that hold the HDD cage in place and then move it back enough to have space for the BIX. There should be plenty of space still.

thats a pretty good idea, but would 2 80mm fans with dustfilter blowing and a 120mm panaflo H1 sucking be good ?
and wouldnt the harddrives be heated a little ?

You can put the radiator down where the drive cages are (were) like I did in the PC-60, but personally I prefer this placement in the PC-70 if you can make it work.

I drilled out the rivets and removed the annoying plate so my PSU fan could point down to vent air out of the system from the bottom instead of the top. I bolted the PSU onto the back PSU plate and bolted the radiator onto the PSU and the PSU mounting plate. A very frustrating mod to have to do due to that annoying plate.

why not move the psu to where the 2 side 80mm's normally are. now you have the psu space and the top 2 80mm fan spaces to put a rad

Yes it is, however a BIX is similar in size and should fit up there

I would have to say putting it at the front behind the intake fans is my choise, though I would change them for 92mm fans.

Obassu, I have a pc60, and I have my blackice xtreme up in the top of the case attached to my blowhole. Currently I do have it as the highest point in my system (yeah yeah, big no no, whatever.) but I still get exellent cooling out of it (with slow ~25cfm fans i idle at around 34C).

My plans are to add a resivor to my system. Once the resivor is added, the radiator will no longer be the highest point in my system. Reason being is that the fan is 25mm in height, and then I have an inch of space between the radiator and the fan (with a shroud). This leaves space above the radiator. Just mount a resivor up there, and you're i no trouble. You could even make an air trap up there in that space.

you can see pics at http://pictures.zoson.net

ok thats my complete plan for now
i might put some 92 mm in the front but probably some other time because one 92mm papst is about 20 bucks...

let me know what you guys think

well it doesn't look bad, but personally I would forget about the 2x80mm intake fans, just remove them and cut out an intake for the BIX in the front of the case.

yeah i could do that, but dont you think those two fans wont help at all ?
and what about the dustproblem ?
i ran my system for about 4 weeks with those little holes in the bottom back open (you know for those 3 40mm fans) and because of the underpressure in the case i got quite a lot of dust and cathairs in my case...
/edit forgot to write that i taped those openings shut ...

remeber bix needs alteast 100cfm going threw it to work at optimal levels....unless that 120mm fan is 100cfm i wouldnt take thos 80s off it, couldnt u mount ur hds up by ur cdrom? and just remove that cage all together....it looks like it would imead airflow

i could take the whole hdd cage out and mount the 2 harddrives in the 2 3.5" slots below the floppy drive...
but i think that wouldnt be good for my harddrives because they dont get any cooling at all there and i heard of heat/failiure issues with IBM drives...

that 120mm panaflo H1A has 103 CFM at 12V so that would work right ?
maybe if i sandwich the blackice with 2 of those and trow out the 80s ?

ill change my pic real fast...

True the BIX needs 100cfm for optimum performance, however with less cfm it still performs well and is much quieter. Those 80mms won't help much, but they won't hurt also. I just think it's 2 fans which can be removed form the system to make it quieter over all.

ok here it is

could i hook those 2 120mm fans up to the built in LianLi fancontrol ? I'm not sure up to how much watt it can handle...

and do you think the HDD cage restricts the airflow too much?

....just mount them up top..pc70 has what 6 bays? how many cdroms could u have (dvd, reg cdrom, cdrw) that still leaves 3 bays open...i wouldnt hook them up to ur fan bus thing..it would probably fry it big time....those fans are supposed to be pretty quiet...whats the db and cfm raiting for them @ 12v?

Default Just a different view

First I would turn that pump upside down from what it is shown in that pic so the hose didn't run from it to the rad in such a convoluted fashion

But my real comment - in general I never did like the concept of venting the rad exhaust into the case. Raises the case temps, affecting everything else in the system.

Just my strange view

good layout there, but you probably could save a couple of bays by moving the res back toward the 2 80mm outlets

the panaflo H1a's specs: 120x120x38, 5.52 Watts, 103.8 CFM, 41.5 dB-A, .6A

the tubing on the drawing is just to show the order of components not really how it will be

and i will move the res back to save some slots, too

and how would i mount the Hdds in 5.25 slots ?
the other problem is that my rounded IDE cable for the HDDs is pretty short and probably wont even reach up there.

Is the air coming from the BIX that warm ???

no the air isnt that warm...it would just get outa the case a lil better imo...ur hds should have come with these brackets taht go on the side of the hds...then they attach to the case....or drive rails..i dunno it depends on ur case but its reall simple...shoo id run those fans at 7v which would give u about ~50cfm per fan so ur good to go with that
