I've been running a closed loop system with a Danner Mag Drive 5 water pump for almost a year now. I sealed the housing around the pump using some silicon sealant, however every few months the pump will find a new place to leak out of.
Anyways, I'm just wondering if the Eheim pumps are plagued with the same problems. |

Danners are known to leak, but otherwise are great pumps, cheap, powerful, reliable. Eheims are much bigger, don't leak, and cost more

You could fabricate some "force spreaders" for the Danner so the clamping force was more evenly spread across the sealing face

Unfortunatly the pump isn't leaking where the two parts come together, its leaking right under the screw (see pic).
![]() The other discolor you see where the two parts come together isn't a leak, its just stained from the dy-lite. So force spreaders won't really help too much. |

is it cracked at all? if its not, try resealing it with some waterpump housing RTV silicone (available at any auto-parts store). if it is cracked, you'll have to get a new housing; it'll be cheaper than buying a new pump.

Well that's the funny thing is that its not cracked at all. After awhile, it seemed as if the housing will develop a leak at the folds. Yea, I patched it up right after posting that, I found that super glue works the best in the folds, but like I was saying, it'll probably find another place to leak out of a few months down the road. So, has anyone else with a Mag pump experienced the same problem or is it just me? And how do the Eheims hold up? Would I have to jump through loops to get those to not leak in-line also? I have a Mag Drive 5 fyi.

people say this about Eheim:
"They're quiet, they're reliable, and they work as advertised"
