D-Tek Heater Core
Does anyone know the make of the car that heater core is from? I am currently going with Chevrolet Chevette, but I only have one opinion on that. If your wondering why, it's because I can get a discount from AdvanceAutoparts, and maybe obtain it for $20. |

the Chevette will be fine (its the same rad that DDen sells pre-modded). you will have to modify at least one barb tho, as the chevette comes with 1 5/8 inch and one 3/4 inch barb (1/2 ID silicone will stretch over a 5/8 OD barb, or so im told lol).

I have a torch, and solder (silver stuff too), so the total price would only be around $30 + paint (not necessary). . .
I'll look into the Fords too. . . |

Yah, and I, personally, am of the opinion why pay money to do something myself (and very possibly screw it up) when I can get a pro to do it for the same price. I mean, you can DO it yourself if that's what you really want. But I'd rather let somebody who's done tons of these and knows what he's doing do it for me personally.

Since i know the manager at autozone, i can get these heater cores very cheap, so it makes modding it yourself worth it.

true, just to let you know, i have modded these cores before, some come out fine, some suck because the pre existing solder liquified and dripped, causing a little solder ball to rattle around in the tanks. UGH ... well you should see what i did to that radiator =) its in oh.... lets say... a slightly different shape (but that was also do to the fact that it leaked)

GUYS! I don't know what the issue is with the modding the cores bit. Just get a core that has the barbs you want. Granted, if you're running 3/8" in your system, you've got a problem. If you've got 1/2" silicon/tygon hose, then any rad w/ 5/8" fittings will be OK. Yeah, the one you're looking at has a 5/8" and a 3/4", so find one w/ two 5/8"!!! Look at the Fords... mine works fine, right out of the box.

Digital, fill the core up with water first, that way it won't overheat. I stole that idea from a staff member - I just can't remember which one, can someone please lay claim to this

lol, just solder the core upside down then the solder will pool at the top by the barbs.
