Default Water Cooling in the box or out?

Hi all!
I've been contemplating an idea to use an external SCSI case to contain the main water cooling stuff (pump, rad, and res) and have coolant lines going into the main case where the water blocks are. Soooo.... I was wondering if anybody did this before and what are the pros and cons of this kind of setup.

I have a BIX, EHEIM 1250, 2 Maze3 WBs, and a homemade res.

BTW, should also put an airtrap in the main case in addition to the res in the other box?

Thanks a bunch!

I don't think anyone has used a scsi case, but many have used another normal at/atx case.

not sure about another res in the case, and in the scsi case. just try for one at first and see what happens

The SCSI case is quite large. It's about 6.8"W x 15.3"D x 9.3"H. Also comes with its own 230W AT PSU, so I can chainthe output of the AT PSU into the input of my main computer's ATX PSU.

The biggest concerns I have right now are:
1) Will the EHEIM 1250 be able to pump water at most 1 meter away while still maintaining good flow for two water blocks in series?

2) Should I get a bigger pump like the EHEIM 1060?

3) Or maybe two pumps? (I have a spare Black Ice II)

4) Has anyone had any experience with the Omega FT-HFC High Flow Thermoplastic Quick Couplings?
http://www.omega.com/pdf/tubing/coup...fc12series.asp
Just wondering because I'll need 2 of these to make the whole external water box work.

Thanks for any help!!!!

I'm building an external enclosure for my w/c gear, and I'm using the polypro quick disconnects with shutoffs by Colder, available from usplastic.com. The pump i'm using is a Little Giant mag drive, model 3-MD-SC. Overkill for what I'm doing most likely (~400 gph @ 21 ft head), but I wanted to make sure I could keep the flow rate normal over some distance.

The con is that it will take more space.

The pros are that it will strangely enough cool a little bit better, simply because of the extended length i.e. more surface area for cooling (not noticeably though)

The extra lenght shouldn't be a concern, even if the extended rig is not sitting at the same level. The only thing you have to watch out for (just like anyone else) is to avoid having elbows in your water route, which is easier to avoid in a sepearte box.

why not have on pump in the computer itself, and one in the scsi case, and have both rads in the scsi case?

Would that work like a water chiller setup?

So I would have a computer loop:
WB1 --> WB2 --> pump --> res1 --> WB1

where res1 and res 2 are connected

And a SCSI box loop like:
res2 --> pump2 --> rad --> res2

Or are you suggesting 1 big loop with the 2 pumps in series?

Hi guys and girls. Here is my watercooling system.

Swiftech MCW462
Aquiavia 1300 pump
Truck heater core, 120mm Sunon fan
3 gallon glass tank
Distilled water, water wetter

Here's the setup. My pump/tank are placed in my cellar. The radiator/fan are in my garage. Since I live in New York its freakin cold 9 months a year. The summer months I bring the radiator into the basement where its always cool. My cpu temps run 13 to 18c in winter and 20 to 24c in summer. I reduced the voltage on the 2 case fans to 7 volts and I have a rockin pc that sounds like a Dell. Silent. Vid card is also watercooled. My water lines run about 40 feet in lenght. A little hard to get system primed, but once its up and running its a beautful thing. Here's my pc setup.

Win XP Pro
Athlon xp 2000
Visiontek geforce3
Shuttle AK35GTR
512MB Kingmax pc2700
Maxtor 40 gig
Sound Blaster Audigy
Enermax 465 p/s
Pioneer DVD
Liteon cd burner

There's a guy in Northern Europe that burried a 100 gallon tank 15 feet under...

The advantages of externally(outside) cooled systems (versus inside i.e. within the case) is that it will be very quiet.

The disadvantages include bigger pump, work involved, and sometimes cost. Also, the temperatures achieved will vary with the season, which is fine if you're only water cooling, but maybe no so good if you are using a Peltier.

A truck heater core, huh? What size?

The rad. is from a 1988 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup. The size is 10" wide by 8" high. All aluminum. I made a shroud so the fan stands off the rad. about 2 inches and it completely surrounds the fan. I have set to suck air through.
