i know this is a newbie question - bear with me.
i've read Arctic Silver.com's site on how to remove it's product from the CPU - but the instructions make me concerned. is using ACETONE and a LINT FREE CLOTH really safe to remove ASII from my CPU.? i know it's printed - but ACETONE *is* h2o no matter if you use dampen a LINT FREE CLOTH with it. can someone explain to me why this is a safe technique or suggest a different one to remove the old ASII paste from my CPU so that i can reapply it when installing my new water kit.? and thanks in advance.! X

Use Isopropyl Alchohol (99% $3.00 at Drugstore) and Q-tips seem to scrub well. Also clean whatever your using to apply with alchohol first (any oil/dirt/lint bad).
I have used a drop of dish soap and a drop of water to scrub very thick white paste off! It won't hurt as long as you clean it all off after with something like alchohol. Just don't do this while CPU in computer ![]()

I'm with Guy Rubbing Alch, and Q-Tips works very well.

I would stay away from oil based solvents as once you clean off the arctic silver, you'll next need to clean off the oily residue to re-apply arctic silver.
Due to Arctic Silver's properties, a little oil (even a fingerprint) will make its thermal conductivity worse than standard silicon grease.
