Default What flavor Pentium IV?

Which flavor Pentium 4?
Ok. So I've clearly seen about 1000 success stories about people OC'ing their Pentium IV 1.8Ghz (Northwood) processors.

I myself have had great success with it.. Now I'm looking for another processor and I started thinking...

I have my Pentium IV 1.8Ghz @ 2.65-2.70Ghz stable.

But just as a demonstration 1.8Ghz means ---> 18 x 100FSB
A Simple Overclock would be 2384Mhz ---> 18 x 133FSB

Now instead of buying another 1.8Ghz... I was thinking about buying a 2.2Ghz because......

22 x 133FSB = 2926Mhz! and thats only running the FSB @ 133Mhz.

Look at 22 x 140FSB = 3080Mhz! Breaking the 3Ghz limit.

However this is where it gets tricky.. Since Intel locks the multiplier -- both processors could very well be indentical except for their multipliers.... In other words they produce the same processor but just crank one up to near its max and sell it for quite more money.

Any thoughts or ideas? Please post and let me know..

Sorry for the X-Post!

I beleive the P4 2.2 is a great buy right now due to it's cheap price, and the fact they seems to oc a bit more than the 2.0a's. They aren't much more than 2.0a's either

Great buy yes. Will get a noticeable performance boost probably not.

This is true, but you don't actually know the upper limit of your processor because the multiplier is locked. You probably know the FSB limit, or ram, mobo, etc..
If I were you, I wouldn't buy shit until Springdale came out, or if you want an AMD chip, wait for Barton.

I agree.. You won't see that much improvement. You will need some serious watercooling to get a 2.2 or 2.4 over the 3.0g limit

...or get one of the 533mhz P4's. they might OC higher since their multipliers are lower.

my 1.6a is happy at 2.7ghz which is plenty fast for all intents and purposes. Get a 1.6a if you can get the FSB high.

hmm, but that would be in effect a downgrade. what kind of FSB options do you have? And have you vid-pin tricked your 1.8 yet? That bought me 300mhz!
