wheres the best place to attach a thermal probe for reading the case temp.

Depends...

You could attach multiple probes and have "Zone" temperatures.. IE, bottom of case, top of case, ect...

There really isn't a "best" area, because it depends on your case setup and air flow.

A good place is to have in a central area About were your north bridge is. At taht it will give a good idea of the conditions your cpu is going through.

right around the NorthBridge and mosfet grid cause they get the hottest.
