Picked up a micro rad (3") from SFX and am thinking of running chilled water through it and a slow 80MM fan across the fins to give me an air conditioner effect. I already have a recirculating water chiller now to cool the water to temps. well below ambient.
Obvioiusly I am going to seal off the motherboard side of my server case from all outside air, which will be a PITA, but it can be done. I figure if I keep recirculating the air inside, it should keep it reasonably cool, which will help with CPU temps and mobo temps. Before I try this, anyone have any thoughts on why or why not it willl or will not work? |

You'll need to pump siginifcantly more heat then the entire system produces before it will be able to chill. I'd figure you'll need to pump out 200w of heat (less if the PSU can be excluded). With TECs that will be very hard. With phase change its doable.
What are you planning on using as the chiller? |
