Default ClearFLEX 60 tubing

I found some tubing with a shore A 60, equivalent to Tygon r3603 tubing in softness and clarity. I am curious what everyone thinks of it. Here is the spec page,

I am actually using that myself. I "found" it about a month ago, and have been using it for a week or so. Though I've never used Tygon myself, I did sell some of it to a couple of people on the forums; you could ask Webmedic or LordSmack what they think, since I am pretty sure that they are familliar with both. I also posted my impression of the stuff in a thread when I first received the tubing.

Great It has been tried out and the responses from your thread, which I just found, were very positive. If they are in fact equivalent in performance then it's time to go price hunting because from what I have seen so far, it is near half the price of Tygon.

Price is exactly why I went with this tubing as a Tygon alternative myself.

It doesn't stretch as well over barbs but it has a better bend radius without colapsing. That is the clearflex compared to tygon.

For half the price I could live with that I suppose you could heat the hose up a little to get it over the oversized barbs?

You know I didn't try heating it up. the 1/2 id tubing will fit over most 5/8 barbs if thats any consolation. It however has a problem fitting over the crimped 1/2 tubing I use for most things.

LOL... yeah, I was beating people away with sticks... seriously...

I've seen it sold lots of places online (sometimes it's called Nalgene 180, but it's the same stuff), though it's always by the 50' or 100' roll, which is inconvenient. I got lucky and snagged a good price for mine direct from the manufacturer, which happens to be close to my house. If there's tons of demand I feel that's a good route to go, since it wasn't hard for me to sell off the extra that I had. I suppose I could be convinced to do it again, but there'd have to be quite a few people interested......

That's cool... how much were you able to get it for Webmedic? Mine cost approximately $1.17US ($1.82CAD) per foot for the 1/2"x3/4" after taxes... that's because of the mighty US dollar versus our poor Loonie.

I'm not exactly sure yet the price I got a quote for was the wrong size. They quoted me for 1/2 od instead of 1/2 id. I would assume it should not be more than about $1.00 a foot but I'm just guessing.

I hope that Webmedic can do better than $1.65 per foot from his supplier... that's almost into Tygon territory in terms of price, isn't it?

$3.20 at McmasterCarr for R-3603 Tygon in 1/8" wall 1/2" ID for comparison.
Interesting, Tygon makes a beverage grade with a "non-wetting surface", I wonder if this would remove a lot of friction? It does not state this property for the other grades.

Here's the exact specs,
Beverage

• Tygon Formulation: B-44-3
• Temperature Range: -49° to +165° F
• Color: Clear
• Durometer, Shore A: 63 (soft)
• Tensile Strength: 2300 psi
• Elongation: 410%
• Fittings: Barbed
Tubing is free of odors and tastes to maintain beverage purity. Featuring a nonwetting surface for complete drainage and flush cleaning

You can get the beverage tubing in Nalgene as well... it's called "Clearflex 70" or "Nalgene 380".

Yes but that shore is not going ot be as flexable. 60 or under is good anything over is gettign to stiff to work with for our needs.

I'm just guessing airspirit, but you might want to call the House of hose. That might be the place.
