I have read the sites, and the commentary around the web in the last day about the demise of VisionTek.
I do have a more personal insight into the company through someone I work with. He's related to John Malley and over the weekend I was out at a BBQ with John. From the sounds of it John is out of a job now, and the news that VisionTek is still being run are lies. I guess its been all but abandoned, and is up to the collection agencies now. In the past few months VisionTek also ditched its claim about being the only card MFG to make video cards in the USA, and moved all their production overseas. The Gurnee Ill. office is all but closed now and the production facilities are closed in Ill. This is truly sad to see a company this good to be run this poorly. Sucks...

This is truly a shame for such a great company to go under like this. RIP VisionTek... *moment of silence* |

I was just reading an article on this the other day...I'll try to find it, and add the link.
Seems this has put Nvidia over the barrel for now, as without VisionTek's production, there will be a major hole in their supply. They are scrambling to get the NV30 out this year, so they don't get completely raped by the Radeon 9700, and all of a sudden one of their top producers is floating at the top of the bowl. Nvidia had even pumped cash into VisionTek recently, to help them sort out the mess. Sounds like Nvidia just helped pay for *snort* party favours. IMO. Hey, you've got some white stuff on your nose there sparky... |

Now I'm reading rumours that:
a) Nvidia will open it's own plant, and b) they will buy the VisionTek name for said plant, to keep the familiarity factor in the marketplace. IMO, a) makes sense, they can keep a tighter rein on production, but b) would be stupid at this point. Word is spreading that VisionTek is gone, I wouldn't hang a tarnished name on my products. Just because people like us would know the truth, wouldn't help "VisionTek" with the retail market. They'd have to spend more on re-affirming the name, then they would on a new name. Would you buy anything in the future from anyone called Worldcom or Enron? ![]() |
