Default 4 PSU compared, at Anandtech

4 PSUs compared, at Anandtech

As one would expect, Antec does well. Unexpected: Vantec doesn't.

Mike from SilentPCReview resumes the situation quite well:
Quote:
Anantech, one of the biggest PC hardware sites around, has taken a page from SPCR and provided noise measurements on a roundup review of 4 PSUs. They're mostly loud models. Voltage regulation is examined but there is no power load testing nor any indication of efficiency. And while the noise measurements are useful for comparison, they don't tell you the noise levels at min vs. max load. Plus they add to misformation about noise by saying things like a device that is 3dBA louder than another is approximately twice as loud. Jeez! You think they'd know better!

Note: Well, at least they're starting to try. ADDENDUM: They've changed the number to 8 dBA, closer to the generally accepted number for audible doubling, 10 dBA.
He said it all I'd call that, "THG syndrome" ?

And no models from FSP in any of their incarnation. Sparkle 400Ws + an L1A fan replacement should solve everyone's noise, power, and stability requirements.

THG's power supply review was much better than that one.

I have a TTGI 470W PSU from Directron, which had 3 fans connected to a little "hi-med-low" controller on the back. Well, the controller broke, I RMAed, then it broke again, so I just replaced the fans with the slim version of the L1A. They are running at 5v and are connected to a molex, not that silly controller. Dead silent. I am not having any problems associated with PSU overheating, so I am rather satisfied... glad I didn't do something silly like WCing it.
