1) In a waterblock how big do you think straight fins (1/4"-3/8" tall), and the space between fins should be? I was thinking 1/16" fins, w/ 1/8" space betweem each.
2) If I make a two piece (top and bottom) waterblock, and I don't want to solder them together. What procedure/precations should I take to make sure it won't leak after I screw 'em together? Thanks for all the help. Hopefully I will have 1 block done in 3 weeks or less depending on how much free time I can get. |

1) Cant say....it would help if you can either describe it better or show us a pic of what you have in mind and we'll go from there.
2a)Either mill an appropriately sized groove in the top and bottom piece for an O-ring to seal both sides together, watertight. b)Use a gasket in between both peices to seal. |

Here is a quick draw up of what I am thinking now. I am undecided on where and how big the pins in the center will be. And I also might 45 the corners (on the inside).

Cathar stated (calculated) that the fin to channel ratio should ideally be between 0.75 to 1.5.

I was originally planning on 1mm fins and channel, though do you think it would be easier to manufacture if I moved it up to 1/16". 1/16 = 1.587 mm
Yes, anything bigger will be easier. As Fixittt (and I) are about to find out, 1mm endmills are not only hard to find, but can break easily. We'll be trying to mill a 5mm deep channel. |
