Well I finally installed the block.
Performing exactly the same as my C5, which funnily enough performed exactly the same as my Surge. Reasonably happy, as it cost less to make than the C5, and is performing as well. However I have to find what is limiting the cooling in the system, because I think I should have had some drop between all those blocks. Using a LA with 2x Papst fans in push pull config (Quiet) and an Ehim 1048. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Comments? This is actually my first bolt together block. All the holes are counter sunk etc, but the photos I took of them are crap. I really need to learn how to use the $1000 cam my dad bought. |

Nice job. Your results sound like you've hit a wall though. I don't think the wall has to do with design as much as machining. Although it looks similar to WW, there are big differences with the fin #'s/size and the nozzle, maybe baseplate thickness too. Cathar did a lot of tweaking in those areas, and I'm sure the changes you've made are impacting the performance. How hard was it to make that block? Will you be able to do some fine tuning to your next one, or is that about as close as you can get, with what you have to work with? Once again, nice job. I can't recall the other blocks you mentioned, I'm gonna do a bit of digging and see if I can find them too.

This is not tweaked or anything, it's just been made as a first go, to get the Cyclone 5 out of my system (Copper and Alu, anodized but worrying none the less) Im not sure the block is limiting me at the moment. From other people's results I certainly should have seen a 2-3C improvment moving from a LiquidCC Surge to a Cyclone 5. I'm happy with the block however. In the first picture is another one being made, that's as far as I got with it, but I might to just make it the same as this and then fiddle with the deisgn when I get different size copper. |
