Default Morphling or Cathar! Help! or Anyone with the skills.

Im looking for thin flutes, and a found something. 1 mm thick. BUT, I want to mill 5mm deep, and the edge of the flute (where the cutters are at) is only 2 mm long! Can you do it anyways or will I break the endmill?

I will order some as soon as I got an answer. Thanks!

You should be OK, as long as the shank diameter is also 1.0 mm.

If you want in, I'm preparing an order for solid grain carbide endmills, 1.0 mm (actually, they're 0.0400", not 0.0394"). $2.50 a piece. No coating, and I don't know if they're center cutting. The flute depth is .25" (>6.0mm). $2.50 a piece, plus shipping.

No idea, I'm still waiting on a final verdict from Fixittt

I did e-mail my contact, and asked to confirm wether or not they're center cutting. I also told him I might order 20.

Shank diameter is 1/8" (that's 3.2 mm).

The p/n is EM2XL-0400. Details here.

If you look at the link...

The total length is 1 1/2", the shank diameter is 1/8", and the flute length is 1/4".

Can't you adapt?

Ive seen some on Ebay recently.

But if youre talking about National standard taper #30 for your mill, then you most likely will not be able to find a holder that has a capacity below 3/16ths " and will have to use a drill chuck to hold the small shank of these end mills.

If youre looking for some of these holders, wttool.com has a few of them for around $20 each.

If you cant find some and you have a decent drill chuck with an adapter(not too much run out) to fit your mill, Id just use that and tighten the chuck real good on the end mills.

Personally, I would just get a good keyless chuck and forget about it.
Jacobs makes the best ones that I know of(this si what I use), but they cost around $250.
Previously, I used a sub-$50 keyless chuck and happened to luck out and get one with only 0.005" runout.
The jacob's chuck, I cant even measure the runout on my indicator(0.0005" increments).

I use my keyless chuck all the time to mill(easier to for tool change)and it works great.

I dont have a drillchuck...even though i really need one... Maybe I'll go for wttool.

I found this: 30-40-50 National Standard Taper End Mill Holders $26.5500 Hole Size: 3/16 Taper: 30

Thats the shit. But with to wide hole...can't find any smaller

Chances are, that if wttool doesnt have anything smaller, then you wont find them too easily.

Ive googled like crazy and havent hit on anything smaller than what I told you.

If you dont have a chuck or collet set, then what are you using to mill with??

You're welcome!

E-mail them for a quote in a certain quantity, and the guy will give you a nice price.

He wanted ~$4.50 for qty 5.

Somebody could probably make you a smaller set if you took one of the collets to a local machineshop.
Depending on the collet type......it shouldnt be too expensive.

I would offer to turn a few out for you on may lathe, but Im still trying to learn to use it properly(its a bit more complicated than I thought)

I would just call up a few local machinists and see what they have to say. Then Id get me a few smaller collet made up to fit in your existing collet set.
