Default dual 80mm radiator?

I currently have the black ice extreme 120mm radiator, i want to replace this with a dual 80mm system instead as the placement of my current radiator is awkwardly placed.

Is there any dual 80mm radiators out there? one that's comparable to the black ice extreme?

sysfx makes a dual 80mm radiator , i would call and make sure they are shipping them quick though , i 've heard some problems with shipping lately from them but everything does get there , just seems to take time.. do yourself a favor and call ahead to make sure.. it's a badass radiator though , they also have a dual 120 which is just fantastic , 1700+ jiuhb @ 2.3ghz = 33c in 33c ambient.. woot! --Josh

I just googled around and found this :

Black Ice Micro 2 . 2x80mm fans.

A bit expensive, imo.

damn, all the dual 80mm's are 3/8" or 5/16" fittings....arg no 1/2"

i might have to stick with the darn black ice extreme (very good radiator) but i don't like the fact it's on the top of my case and the pump is sitting on the bottom of the case, too much uneccesary tubing (lian-li pc70 to get idea of how big the case is). O well...

Wait.. that doesn't make sence.. your OD is smaller than your ID that doesn't make much sence.. maybe i'm reading that wrong.. --Josh

Don't bother. 80mm fans don't have the pressure to be worthwhile on radiators. Most hit near zero flow at the resistances put up by radiators. I tried ducting a few 80mm fans onto a HUGE heatercore. There was literally twice the radiator surface area as there was fan area and they still barely moved any air through. Natural convection would have been only slightly less effective.

It was really quiet though. Nevermind that a pair of 5 volted 120mm L1As blow 10 times the air

i just wanted to mount it on the front of my case closer to the pump as opposed to the top. but i won't sacrifice the performance loss for it so o well

It´s worse than that. I´ve got a BI Micro (yeah, I should know better, replace it with anything else, etc.), and the so called 3/8" fittings, well:
The tube that fits on the hose has an *outer diameter* of 3/8". It´s the official excuse, I´ve checked with HWLabs. As in: "My car has 24" wheels, because that´s the outer diameter on the tires that fit on the wheels."
The hoses are 1/4". It was fairly frustrating to find out, and a bit ambivalent to make the 3/8"->1/4" adapters. Though the explanation from HWLabs was just a big laugh.

the BI micros' are like total meh.. I got rid of mine pretty quick , I run a dual 80from sysfx in one case , 2 single 80's in another and a dual 120 in another.. they are all sysfx and they all are within a few degrees of ambient at the core.. --Josh

I run two 80mm Black Ice Micro in parallel though I use 3/8" hoses and they fit on VERY tight (you don't want to know the trouble I had putting the tubes over the 1/2"--> 2x 3/8" Y splitters)

(I got them so I could fit them side by side at the top of my case with the fan holes and not have to worry about modding my nice new case as I didn't have the tools).

Think about the area of the connections: 2 x 3/8" = 570mm2 1x 1/2" = 506.7mm2 (sorry for the metric conversion). This would mean that your liquid would travel slower through the radiators i.e. a preasure drop sure but it woudl spend more time in the fins and so cool better (that's my philosophy anyway) while keeping the preasure high where you need it (entering your water blocks).

As to the dual radiator idea I tried looking for something similar at the start... no luck for me.. they all had an inch of so added on at the "bottom" and thus wouldn't fit correctly.

My parallel radiators seem to work great I can get pretty close to "ambiant" (asuming like I have had tested my mobo reads temps 15oC or so HIGHER than normal) using them with two fans on each. (OK its a bit noisy but I have fan controller to switch them to low power bring the temp up 10oC).

Grab a core like the DTek Pro is made from.

Take it to a radiator work shop. Have them remove the tanks. Cut it in half length-ways, and use one half of the top tank on the bottom of one of the halves, so now you have a single pass 8cm wide radiator. Bend the tanks a bit so that they roughly meet where required and then solder it up.

Could could probably DIY one up happily if you had a mitre box and clamp to ensure you cut the radiator in half properly, and a soldering blowtorch.
