How to quiet ViaAqua 1300

Just built an evap tower that runs on two ViaAqua 1300's. The first pump comes out of my 5gal res and pumps to the blocks (parallel gpu and cpu) then to the second pump which pushes the rest of the way to my shower head in the tower.

I have one 1300 that is quiet as a mouse, no audible noise at all and only a slight vibration to the touch. My second pump makes so much noise (a clacking/clicking) that it's louder than my five Smartfan 2's at full tilt.

I've tried this pump in both locations, same noise. I even super glued the impeller to the shaft to eliminate any play, but the glue won't hold and it breaks free.

Bought both pumps from BeCooling. Ordered a third to replace the noisy one and it's just as noisy and leaks to boot.

Any ideas on what I can do to shut this thing up and make it run quiet??

maybe try some better glue? like epoxy or something...lol

Yeah, thought about that obviously but what bothers me about that is I used quite a bit of super glue, more than enough from past experience. So the pump is doing something to cause enough vibration to break that free.

It has been said in other threads that most (i wont go as far to say all) epoxys are not waterproof, and are in fact, porous. Which is no good for a long term "relationship" with a pump . Use a silicon based sealant , goop, but not epoxy.

Point two is that usually the pump sounds is due to vibrations of the shaft or cavitation (lotsa air in the system).

Then two things : the shaft has head that is prone to vibrate , like the Eheim shafts, then someone developed this mod , to give an elastic solution.

Or the shaft is misaligned . However, and i've never done this, but i think correcting an misaligned shaft should not be and easy task.

I've had two of these pumps, both started out completely silent. The first started vibrating and making noise, so I checked the impeller and found that it had been chipped. Balance of the impeller is very important in these pumps it seems. You may want to check the magnet of the impeller as well as the blades for chips. To re-balance the impeller of the first I put some epoxy in the chipped area, and it alleviated it somewhat. The second pump is the one I'm currently using and it is still perfectly silent.
Another thing you may want to check is the rubber feet that attach to the shaft. I found that they were ripped on the vibrating pump.

Ah yes, the old Glue mod... Well my Via 1300 made some nasty vibration too, But after using some PLASTIC weld epxoy it's a LOT quieter! I can't hear it over the fans and HD's etc...

You just take out the impeller, See where the reddish part is, take something to dry it off, get some rubbing alcohol and clean off the Reddish part/Spot you're going to bond. Then dry again, apply the Epoxy, but not too much. Let it dry and there shouldn't be ANY play or movement between the Reddish impeller and it's shaft. At 1st running of the pump, it'll do this funny saking, then it'll spin up at full blast and things will be much quieter... I thought the shaking meant I F**cked up, but it's just the impeller having to get the water moving sufficently enough for the flow to get up etc... I've been running mine near 24/7 and not had a problem at all!

Alright, glued the wiz out of it and now she's absolutely silent.

Hopefully she'll hold as I still used super glue. May follow up with something a little sturdier.
