So the other day I was wondering around and found myself in an environmental testing lab. I saw this huge chunk of granite sitting on a stand and asked myself why a huge rock would be in the middle of such a high tech lab. I later found out they use it to reduce vibration. So I thought to myself what would happen if I put a huge chunk of stone in the box. First of all it would never be taken to a LAN again. But I'm not sure as to weather or not it would dampen the noise enough to warrant actually doing it. Anyone here have any experience with these vibration dampening stones?

Why not try it, and if it doesn't work you could always take the rock back out.....
But if your case is vibrating and causing noise, it definitely should help, yes.

Washing machines use a huge lump of concrete in the bottom to stop vibration (and walking around the room)... but sticking a heavy lump of material at the bottom of your case won't do you any good (unless of course you have a computer that shakes).

if you have vibrations, its better to target them at the source: isolation mount the fans with something like the EAR isolators, and suspension mount the hard drives with elastic string. Then you won't have any case vibrations, so you won't have to worry about a granite slab.

OMG just had this thought of a huge lump of granite with the inside of a computer carved into it... places for the drives/fans/PSU mobo with a perspex side panel all polshed up.
How GOOD would that look? It would be like art. ~ Boli

What you could do is take a piece of granite, and rest the hdd on it (of course you could make side mounts and screw the hdd in there)...this could be an idea...
