Real reasons always convince me more than threats. I pirate lots of music and some games. On the other hand I also purchase a fair amount of CDs and all the games I currently "play" Some of which I may not have even thought to buy without playing them - or listening to their stuff. It's a bit of a roundabout...

it's purely money. riaa is going to be going after the big players on p2p, not p2p itself. so if you're a college person or something with a heavily traded node (like my ex), you could be in serious trouble. she's got like 400gb's of movies and crap she trades regularly on a large pipe.

they're going to be suing these "big players" for $750 on up to some crazy amount of several thousands PER ITEM.

i'd hate to be one of those folks. i completely stopped using p2p several months ago.

that video, while horribly disturbing, reminds of the fervent optimism of the early ninteys... anyway Riaa cant do a DAMN thing about the source of all the pirated movies, posted on IRC chatrooms and totally impossible for them to medle with.

nothing is anonymous. You haven't noticed all the attacks on torrent sites? Most IRC servers COULD be taken down if the RIAA were so inclined...

I normally download a game and play it for a week. If I like it I'll buy it however if its crap well then I won't. Same thing goes for movies, sure its cool to see a movie before it comes out but if I like it I go see it at the movies because the quailty/experience is much better. I've seen so many games that a hyped up to be great and they either are horrible or I beat them in 4hours. Companies rarely have demos anymore so what else am I supposed to do.

I had an fserve of movies hosted in a channel.
the RIAA will go through the channels.. get on the fserves... get a list of the pirate stuf... get you IP.. notify your ISp.
I know...
kinda scary when your ISP emails you a list of all the movies you have on your hardrive.
needless to say.. I don't have the fserve up anymore.
