YESSSS, i am a true nerd. i finally modded my calculator. (man that sounds pathetic) but hey, i'm proud of it, and i figured i'd post it here where it might be appreciated. anyway, just to point out what i did, i got fed up w/ the amount of batteries this beast went through (i use it at work so its on a LOT), & since i'm inherently cheap & lazy i decided to remedy the situation. I went to jameco, my favorite online electronics place & found a 6volt wall wart & a power jack to plug it into. i then removed the back of the unsuspecting TI & cut *gasp*

there are easier ways than that. Buy a 6 volt wall wart (or whatever size is needed) and then use some dowels or something to make fake batteries; attach the wall wart's wire to the appropriate ends and drill a hole in the battery cover for the cord.

Kinda off-topic, but would you overclock your calculator? Im pretty sure you would be the first one in here
![]() http://www.ticalc.org/hardware/overclocking/ unfortunatelly the links to the overclock pages are dead; im gonna email them, to see if it can be fixed. |

I overclocked my 85. I wish changing a cap on my PC would make it 3 times as fast. The only issue is it made most games unplayable.

Hehe I still have an OC'd Ti85 around here somewhere
![]() I use it all the time when I am doing benchmarks, does quite a lot of stuff.

well, as far as a fake battery pack goes, i decided that i wanted to be able to unplug the TI from the wall & go with it instead of having to put the batteries back in. this way i leave the batteries in all the time & they're only used when the jack is unplugged. (i think). as far as games being unplayable after overclocking it, look up TI mods on the internet, or go to TI-calc.org and it shows a way to switch between normal & overclocked operation (for programs like games that use the clock speed to run properly) that'll be my next project when i get the guts to hack into the TI again.

If you leave your batteries in while its plugged into the wall they will get recharged each time. I could of added the switch but I rarely play games on my calc. All the entertainment I needed was being able to graph things faster than everyone else.

I think you got it right on sevi. If you have such a nice calc, you should be doing math instead of stupid calc games. Now if you have a nice computer, it's a whole 'nother story

I don't play games on the calc because I have a nice comp.
To overclock your Ti-xx all you have to do is change a capacitor. Someone posted a link to the site already. It involves removing an old resistor and replacing it with a new one. The only drawback is it chews threw batteries like a... Heat isn't an issue in this case. Someone should see exactly high they can make there TI go. |

man, i got my old '86 laying around here, and i've barely used it in the past few years. it's only done very simple calculations since i've been out of HS
![]() i use to write programs, and all kinds of crazy shit on it. even built my own pc-to-calc cable to transfer stuff to it through the serial port. i had some awesome assembler games, and i even wrote a movie for it once. that was cool, but it used almost all of the calc's memory. the '89 is sweet... i've thought about buying it just to have it, but the 86 does more than i really need, and it's definitely a lot nicer than the '83 i started with ![]() edit: you know what the best part is? keeping this for 20 years to get laughed at by my children. my dad has shown me his scientific fancy-smancy ti calcs (even gave me one... it's around here somewhere), with red LED numeric displays. it's got about the same amount of buttons and stuff, but it's just got the mondo-cool red led display. i wonder what tomorrow holds...
