AC Socket Connector for Pump

Has anyone seen anything like an AC socket fitted into one or two empty PCI covers so that you can plug your pump inside the case to it and connect another AC cable from the other side to a wall outlet?

Would it be pretty easy to make?

There are a few sites that sell relay kits that can do what you want. Most require you to cut out a hole in your case for the plug and cut the plug off of your pump, and wire it to the device. You can of course DIY by finding an unused ps, canabalizing the plug, and buy a 110-115vac 12vdc relay.

There is one product which requires to do nothing but use a pci slot : http://www.dangerden.com/mall/Pumps/Pump_acces.asp .

Yeah I had thought about using relays but actually all I need is something simplier.

I would like to keep the pump running even when the pc is off. So I guess I just need some way to get the pump power cord outside of the case w/o making a nasty hole. Something like a socket on one or two PCI slots then another cable from there to the wall would work.

I did exactly what you want to do, and I have no nasty holes, and plug it in to the back of my case. I simply got the plug from an old at power supply, and cut a square in the back of my case to mount it. I then cut the plug from my Eheim pump, and soldered it to the plug that I put in the back of my case. Now I can simply plug a PC power cord into it and my pump is on.

In my next case I am going to make a relay w/ an override switch to turn it on if the PC is off. Mainly for testing and stuff.

You can simply cut a notch in the side of a slot cover: it'll let you run a power cable through it. The trick though is always trying to run that plug through there.

I opted for a relay, and a bit of case hacking myself. Of course now that I opted to go with the 12V pumps, the relay is just going to sit there...

Yeah. The pain is running the cord thru the PCI cover, etc. Would be nice to find a two headed socket so I can put that in the PCI slot and connect the pump to one end and the other end to a AC cable.

I'm not even sure what those sockets would be called.
