64mb GF4 MX440 better than Radeon 32DDR?

Well I suck at vid card comparision being the best card I ever had is my trusty Radeon 32DDR (7200?). I just bought this: http://www.leadtek.com/graphics/a170ddrt/a170ddrt.htm for $40 and was wondering if it is better or worst than the Radeon I have?

I needed a AGP2.0 compliant card to fit in my Asus A7V8X-X I just bought and wanted something a little better at gaming than the old Radeon. I figure for $40 I couldn't loose out to much even if it performed as good as the Radeon but the specs sure look better.... First NVIDIA card i ever owned. Always bought ATI up till now. Just couldn't find a ATI better than what I got for under $45.

I am no good at this either JayDee, but:

I had a 64mb ddr radeon1, and it was about as fast as my GF2 GTS (maybe a little faster).

The GF4MX400 I think is also around GF3 GTS performance (maybe a bit faster).

So probably all in all they aren't that far apart?

I picked up a 64mb SDR Radeon 7000 a few months ago just because it had S Video out. It's been a pretty good card so far but I honestly haven't run any games other than ROMs on it (it's in my HTPC). My son is bugging me to get a racing wheel lately so we can play racing games; hopefully it'll run those ok.

I have the 64mb 7000. Its a decent card for its price, I've played nearly every new game on it and never ran into any problems. I don't really care for maxing graphics though. I'm about to upgrade as soon as the lazy FedEX guy drops off my 9600Pro.

OK everybody always $hit$ on Tom's Hardware but i just thought i'd mention that the website has a whole bunch of video card comparisons here .

I read it... I don't beleive everyting i read but i think it is a good for a base review.

I think the modern drivers for each of those cards will completely change that article's results. Non the less I hear the G4 MX440 is a decent overclocking card. I see two mounting holes on the one I got from the pics so maybe it is GPU WB design and construction time.

Hahahahahaha: Tom's Hardware, hahahahhahahaha.....

Sorry, I know it was of low taste, but come on. Just google both cards names and review or compare. Read as many reviews as you can.

I already have. Problem is they were all done when the cards were released with the original drivers. My 32DDR Radeon has improved considerably since I bought it years ago with the latest drivers. The reviews are pretty useless now. Thats why I asked for users input.

I had a geforce 2 GTS that i replaced with a geforce 4 MX, because it was faster.
The light memory architecture does help in games with heavy textures.

Probably it is better than your radeon.

But the best way to see it is doing your own testing with the most recent drivers.

Will be doing plenty of that. Just will not have the card for another week.... Going to build a WB for it and OC the hell out of it.

Woot. Got the card today along with an ASUS A7V8X-X, a 5 port switch, and a 25ft NIC cable (for hooking my laptop up in the living room from the computer room).

The card came with 2 games. "Master Rally" and "Aqua Nox". It was supposed to be a refurbished card but it came with all the factory stuff sealed and in a factory box. The traces don't have a scratch one.

The gaming rig project begins.

I was going to do a quick comparison last night with these two cards. I ran 3Dmark 2001 and 2003, and then the UT2003 benchmark at 800x600 and 1024x768 on the Radeon. Then I pulled the Radeon out unistalling the drivers first (so I thought) and then poping in the GF. Well the GF booted into windows fine before the drivers where installed. I downloaded and installed the newest drivers, rebooted and NOTHING! It would not go into Windows. It kept rebooting itself or just shutting the comp off by itself. I was one dude at this point as I never seen anything like it. I could get into windows through safe mode so I thought maybe it was a bios settings or something. Well after an hour messing with the bios, resetting defaults, blah blah blah, I gave up, put the Radeon back in and away it went just like before.

So I thought I had a bad card (especially being it was a refurb). being one to not give up so easily I opened up the new A7V8X-X, put the card in it, reformatted a small spare drive, installed Windows fresh, and then loaded up the GF drivers, and it WORKED! Go lord, what does ATI do to sabotage the computer after installing it's card?

I tell you what if you select a vid card brand stick with it! Anyway I couldn't run a comparison on the two... Once I get the card setup in the actual gaming system I will rerun the tests on the GF and see what happens. I really like the HS/Fan on this GF. I think I will remove it, apply some Silver compound and use bolts instead of the plastic pins. Later down the road if I see it needs it I will make a WB for it.

Could it be because of that new AGP voltage scheme?

Doubt it. The boards are both fairly new. Abit KD7 with the KT400 and the Asus A7V8X-X with the KT400. Same power supply was used. The card worked fine untill the drivers where loaded.

Finally reloaded WinBlows and got the GF to work on that system. It bitch slaps the Radeon. 3D Mark 2001 score has doubled and the UT2003 Bench has also doubled. Seems to be a nice card. What bothers me though is my ATI TV Wonder capture/tunner card seems to work BETTER with the GF than the Radeon! Also a few of the games (older games) I had problems with graphics are now working fine.
