They have a 2 gig hammer that shows what the hammer will do to P4 performance figures. The hammer chip on air beat a p4 @ 4100 while the Hammer chip was @ 2390. Interesting things to come. |

made me grasp for some air too. my mind has been made up, i'll sweat it till i get to find out a good mobo chipset and a decent value cpu; performance seems to be very decent, if the oc potential is also there, there will be some fun days ahead.

Anandtech did a cool little preview by overclocking an Opteron to the performance level of a 2.0 GHz Athlon64 (Hammer) chip, running on an nForce3 reference board. They then went on to compare this to a bunch of different processor/chipset platforms. I found it particularly interesting to see that one 2.0Ghz Athlon64 equivalent chip outperformed, or performed equal to a dual 3.0Ghz Xeon system in practically all applications.
