Default I think I killed my mobo :(

Well, I used that dow corning conforming compound around my cpu socket. When it cured, I noticed that the socket lever was glued into place, as the socket 478 moves when you lock it down. I figured that this was a no issue as Ive pulled out cpu's out of the socket when removing hs/f's. Well, I finally put the tec together and tested it. Frost baby, so I was pretty psyched. I assemble the whole thing, power it up, and..........nothing. The computer powers up, the fans/lights/cdroms and such activate and everything, but no video action. I changed cards to no avail. Heres the weird thing, I took off the tec, removed the cpu and the comp still powered up. I removed the ram and the damn thing still powered up. I shorted the bios to get rid of any crazy settings but still no go. Anybody ever seen anything like this? Its an abit Ic7-max3. NO BEEPS???

Sorry to hear that. Haven't heard of using conformal coating on the top of the motherboard, what is recommended is to use it on the back where the cpu socket pins protrude, and to use dielectric grease in the cpu socket, filling all the holes (you did do this, right?), and then after installing cpu + water block, cover the whole thing with neoprene foam.

Any how, something is seriously out of whack on your system. Could it be that perhaps some small amount of coating got into the video card slot? Are you using a PSU rated with enough power for the pelt? just thinking out loud here.

BTW, neoprene foam can be found in auto parts stores as a 1/8" thick x 1" wide rolls of weathering tape, that can be easily cut to fit, and applied anywhere needed. Edit: You will find dielectric grease there as well.

have you checked the p4 12v lead is ok ?

if everything else starts ok but no post it can be a dead cpu or the p4 12volt s not connected.

does the abit mobo have the 7 segment dsplay on it ? that will gve you a post diag and tell you at what stage the post is failing.

hope this helps

good luck
