a few quick questions
i am gearing up to build my own block out of 1/2 T6 alum. with a poly top i was wondering if the base plate thickness is right. my other question is are transmission fluid coolers good radiators this system is going to be designed for a very high air flow system my logic in picking this cooler is it measures 15"x8" and is all 1/2 tube. it also offers almost no air flow restriction i am planning on using 2 110v. fans to push air threw the rad and outa shroud on the back (rads. res and pump and in separate box) o ya i will be running 2 rads. thanks DJ Pratt ps sorry if this has been touched on befoe i couldnt find answear i was happy with searching the forums. |

Tranny coolers are designed to cool thick oil that is running at a very high temperature. They don't work all that well at low temp differentials. You would be better off finding a comparably sized aluminum radiator or heater core (possibly out of a motorcycle or a new model car)
Of course you would do better to build the block out of copper, and go with a Cu/Brass rad, but an all Al solution will work. Gooserider

Designing system, will have Tyan S2468UGN Dual Athlon MOBO, SCSI HDDS, other goodies. Will run LINUX only. Want to have silent running, minimal fans, and water cooled. Probably not OC'c |

Tranny coolers are indeed pitiful performers, except...
Hayden makes a cooler that has built-in turbulators. The unit is surprisingly efficient for its size. Check it out. Bill tested one... |

low fin density, therefor high air flow even with a wimpy fan (= silent) |
