I set up the H2O last night, and even though it isn't perfect yet (I replaced the vinyl tubing in places where it had flattened out and so now it just flattens elsewhere) I am getting pretty respectable temps. Here is a graph with the XP1600+ at stock speed and voltage:
![]() It's about 6-7C cooler than the best heatsink/fan I have tested, and if you work out the C/W then I think it is around 0.16-0.18. One thing that doesn't make too much sense to me is that the water temp is sometimes higher than the CPU temp. I think that that thermistor might be off by a degree or two; I would expect those numbers to be the same... Whenever I get that KT7A from OCPunk I'll have some real overclocked XP numbers; my A7V-133 is locked into 133 fsb ![]() |

remember that thing on AS's website about finding how offset the temps are? You'll have to use that to figure it out

but can any of these mainboards(abit kt7a or asus a7v133) read the internal tems... nope... sorry to disapoint you.... the only card that provide this option is newer ones.... so the temps you are getting a probably from the backside of the cpu...

[dannzig]: You shouldn't approach the problem by waiting for a motherboard manufacturer to support the diode. As far as I know, none of the currently available Athlon mobos are reading temps from the diode (except possibly some of the 760MP boards). So if you want to know the truth you have to

dannzig, as pH just explained, this is an external diode, but it is obviously offset a bit.
another way would be to shove it into your mouth, it should give you 37 degrees ![]() |

Oh no Brad the CPU temp is correct but the water probe I think is off. It doesn't make sense to me that the CPU could get cooler than the water flowing through the tubing. Maybe that isn't unheard of though. I will let the system idle for a few hours and then set the water temp to be equal to room temp I think. That should be about as close as I can get.

no, it is impossible to get something cooler than the thing you are cooling it with.
Now you've got two probes to put in your mouth ![]() |

That KT7A was running 150Mhz FSB in here wth stock north bridge sink/fan so high is possable.

Your using the diode in the core of your XP, right? I don't think Brad realizes this.. I dunno about your mouth, but I'd be hard pressed to fit a Athlon chip into my mouth. P4 on the otherhand... heh.. Nice numbers, how about some full load temps?

That IS load Una but only at 1400 MHz and 1.75V (~56W heat) so it isn't too much of a strain on the cooling. I have had this XP at 1615 and 2.2V though on a different motherboard with air, so I should be able to get some 100-125W heat loads soon

Wow! That's pretty sweet, I'd definately double or triple check your water temp probe.

I wasn't thinking at the time hehe, I knew you were measuring them, I just wasn't thinking.
maybe you should try what that article at AS showed, dropping the wattage, and measuring the temperature drop, to calculate how accurate the internal diode is. While to measure the watertemp diode, put it into a recognised medium, thats why I suggested your body, cause it should be at 37C |

I tested my temp center ny putting all thermistors in a cup of mostly ice and water to fill it up. Compared all temps as they all should be 0 c
