Default Watercooling saved my comp

Well, my watercooler is running on a 1600+ at stock for now, the temps are OK, and the watercooler is OK, but I'll probably make some changes in the future. Point is, I was working in the tower, trying some things, and when I was finished, I forgot to plug my fans back in, including the rad fan. The only fans left were on my video card and chipset since they were on mobo headers. So, I booted up, and everything was fine, but I did notice the computer sounded different since there was only a faint hum from the pump. Into windows I went and started playing some ZSNES for about a half-hour. It worked without a hickup. Then I quit out and looked at MBM5 and saw my core was at 52C. I was shocked since I usually load around 40-42 depending on ambient. Then I shutdown and looked inside the case and found the fans not plugged in, plus the waterblock and rad were hot. I felt rather stupid at that moment, but was also amazed that my system didn't lock or give any major sign that I had no fans, lol.

This would have been me with a heatsink with no fan ->

I just thought it was interesting that my system ran at load with a passive radiator.

Ha, nice, I've been there and done that many a time! Yeah your rad can dump some massive heat that even the best Heatsink with out a fan would simply melt!

GO WATER!

i had a big arse radiator. I never turned on my comair-rotron only when its really hot (30C ambient) or when i am playing a game. It used to run at 35-42C. But now i am moving to a smaller rad which really blows. The only reason i am doing it is because i want to take my pc to my friend's house and be able to watercool. My current setup doesnt allow me to. But i am thinking of having an outlet and inlet port on the side of my case and allow to have a second radiator installed when i am at home. 2 RADIATORS! uber cool!

lol, the CPU could get much warmer without crashing / locking up.

you said you have MBM. do this: set it so it loads when windows loads, and set the CPU temp alarm to 45C or something. its helped me once already.

hehe, it didn't really, if you didn't pull it all part at the start you wouldn't have needed to plug all the fans back in
