Sorry, Via Aqua 1300 help again...

How are all you guys running your Aqua Via's inline without frying your systems?
I did a test run of my inline setup for two hours and the pump got to 113F ( 45C ), the water got to 110F ( 43.3C ), and the tygon tubing turned color from clear to yellow. It's so hot that I had to snatch my hand away after touching the pump and tubing.
But I really can't afford a reservoir in my case.
Dammit, I bought two and sealed them both, so now I can't return them.
Should I just suck it up like a man and shell out an extra $70 for an Eheim that's made to be run inline and doesn't get hot?

First, 45C isn't so hot you would need to snatch your hand away. Its only 8C warmer than body temperature.

Were you running with the radiator fan turned off? If so, this is unrealistic. Try it with the fan on.

I ran my setup with just the pump and 10ft of tubing for about 90min. The pump got a little warm, and the tubing barely got warm to the touch. This was with no radiator at all.

The Eheim 1250 consumes just as much power as the Via. It has a much bigger housing though, so will likely not get as warm.

You'll be flushing your system then, right?

You need to turn on the rad fan, otherwise the coolant temp will increase, until the temp difference between the rad and air (non-moving) allows the rad to dissipate the heat power from the pump.

You'll do fine with or without a res.

Are you running two pumps side-by-side, or one after the other? Or are you just keeping one for backup

Yeah. I'll be flushing my system and I'm running both pumps one after the other. Will the fan and radiator make that much of a difference?

I've got a ViaAqua 1300 in my system, running in-line, no rez, and I leave the pump on 24/7 (though the comp and hence fans only run when I am using it). I've also got the pump 1/2 wrapped in foam to insulate the case from the vibrations. The casing of the pump is quite warm to the touch, but the tubing/rad are barely warm after sitting with all the fans off for 10 hours. Even without the fan running, the rad can dissipate the few watts of heat that the pump puts into the water.

This is true... but still expect to see temp drops after the fans turn on. My computer run hotter at boot than it does after 5 minutes of fan blowing.

That makes much more sense. Having a rad alone should be sufficient.

Babybunny: are you testing this without a rad?
