Default Dangerden Maze4

I don't know if anyone else noticed the Maze3s were all out of stock at Cooltechnica. I found out that they JUST got stock in of the new Maze4s in their place! I am figuring that this means I can share with you all a picture of a prototype Maze4 that I have had on my hdd for a while:

Shhh don't tell Bruce I showed it to you

Interesting. Looks to be about 2.0mm wide channels with ~1.5mm wide channel walls, in a straight side-to-side config.

An off-the-cuff assessment tells me that it'd be about 2C better than a Maze 3, given that both the Maze 3 and Maze 4 were lapped properly, and installed on a ~80W CPU.

Does that roughly fit in with what you're seeing for performance Phaestus?

You must think I am important or something. That's just a picture I got from a reseller; I am using a modified Swiftech block atm.

Erk. I thought you actually had the block and were showing up a picture of your mobo before you fired it up.

Hadn't realised it was just a picture you had kicking about.

You don't have to be civil about it, you can just tell him he is a worthless basterd!

That thing even looks about the same size as GTA's.

Odd that they got rid of the centralized inlet. They've been doing that since Rev2 of the Maze2.

Setting up my cooling loop now to start testing blocks actually. Running into a problem with my Little Giant getting HOT and warming up water quite a bit. Contemplating dropping it into a bucket and then watercooling that bucket with a separate loop....

Are you going to do actual reviews for the site?

i don't know about you guys but i think the reason they moved from the central inlet is quite simple; the central inlet is a pain in the ass. i understand all the benefits of it, but i CAN'T be the only one who has had SERIOUS TROUBLE getting hose clamps to work on the ole maze3. i mean i use 1/2" id with the thicker walls, and there is literally no room between them for a proper install of hose clamps. at least with them spaced farther apart you can keep your system from leaking( ) which is a Real Good Thing.

jaydee:

Two things

(1) I need to get the system up and running reliably first aand test out a few blocks I have now. I have about 4 blocks from mfgrs that I have not yet tested in fact.

Once this is done then

(2) I really prefer to test DIY blocks rather than the commercial ones, but where does the fact that o/cers is also buying equipment to do this fit in? JoeC has a die simulator already (though I get higher temps with the internal diode from my CPU) and they have a larger reader base as well. Should I just leave the DIY block testing to them?

I haven't sorted out (2) in my head yet honestly. Oh well maybe with (1) finished I can come to a good decision on where to go from here.

Its almost identical to my block, how long have you had that picture, if you don't mind me asking.

Except for the fact that the channels on mine are 1mm, and their's look a lot wider, and the fact that they've managed to fit about 3 channels in, I got 7 in there.

Its enough to piss you off to be honest.

I hear ya. I am in no hurry. I don't care about it being seen by any other site. If it tests well I might gear up and make a few. Just about every bit of thought that went in and is going into this block came from my learning here over the last year. I am only going to show REV. 5 and 6 off in the forums here as this is the only place I get decent feedback on anything. Not to worried about an "official" review. We can get into this later though.

only thing i'm wondering about is by the looks of it with where the screw is to hold the cover on it sticks out past the socket on the near side of the picture, so i'm wondering if there will be a socket tab hold down for it, while personaly i'd rather just use the holes in the boards it seems basicaly most companys are no longer putting those holes in their boards, my next upgrade will be to an athlon xp 3200 and i've yet to find a board with nforce2 and dual channel ram that has the holes in the board so you are forced to use the socket tabs.

I do think the performance will lag for the CPU block, but a performance increase will occure on the NB block. There seems to be a more "exposed" area when compared to the Z style NB block.

Use spring clamps. Mine are about 1.5mm thick.

most nforce2 boards i've seen have holes around the socket for mounting blocks, ive got an Epox 8RDA+ and my maze3 mounts fine on that
